Not to steal anyone’s thunder, but if the following link doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, well, you just might not be a Cyclone.

I remember being in our living room, my whole family there, and we’re all decked out in our Cyclone gear....I’ll never forget that moment.

agreed on the tears. I still haven’t made it through that without them. And I’ve tried dozens of times. JD jumping in the pool is my fav.

A few thoughts in reflection on an incredible video:

1. Passionate, detailed speech . . . without notes!
2. He didn't shy away from some of the bad stuff, both in words and clips.
3. About the only thing that would make it even better is the locker room clip after the Fiesta Bowl. "You just won the f-ing Fiesta Bowl!"
4. Was there any significance to the timing of its release? Why now?

I thought the same as your #4. Maybe a "this is why I am staying at ISU" point. If nothing else, it has fired us up! Maybe a good motivator right before ticket renewal and/or Cyclone Club renewal pushes begin.

Whoa!! I remember in December of 2015 I went to pickup my wife from the airport in Des Moines. I recognized Campbell right away, he was sitting in the waiting area by himself. Wish I would have said something to him.

He could have been waiting for a family member but he seems like the type of guy who would personally go to the airport to pickup a potential recruit and welcome him to Iowa.

I will get killed for saying this, but Campbell has the potential to be the most important person in the history of the school. He is extraordinarily important to the entire university right now.

A good way to get us to forget about basketball.

4). BB team doing poor, season tickets coming up for sale soon, recruiting is year round. Several reasons to keep pumping out stuff like this periodically.

This video needs to be played 1 hr. before the UNI game, with added footage to encompass the offseason. Already getting chills thinking about the buzz that Saturday will be in and around the stadium.

The pride I felt watching CMC in this new “Soul” video reminds me of this video...

What a great story. That 2017 was good, and largely guided by Kempt.
2017
Honorable Mention All-Big 12 … Second-Team Academic All-Big 12 … CFPA Performer of the Year watch list … one of the greatest stories in college football during the season, emerging as the starting quarterback in the fifth game of the season and leading the Cyclones to a bowl game … was 5-3 as a starter, appearing in nine games … completed 66.3 percent of his passes (161-of-243) to rank second on ISU’s single-season list … tossed 15 touchdown passes, tying for sixth on ISU’s season chart, to just three interceptions … tallied a 145.93 passing efficiency clip, the second-best season total in school history … threw a touchdown pass in all eight starts, including five games with two or more … tallied two 300-yard passing games, tying for sixth on ISU’s season record book … had attempted only two passes in his entire career before earning his first career start at No. 3 Oklahoma … Kempt proceeded to lead the Cyclones to one of their greatest wins in school history, throwing for 343 yards (18-of-24) and three touchdowns in a 38-31 victory, ISU’s first-ever vs. a top-five team on the road … all three of his touchdown passes were in the second half (46, 54, 57) to help ISU overcome a 24-13 halftime deficit … was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week and Davey O’Brien National QB of the Week after his performance vs. the Sooners … led the Cyclones to a perfect October (4-0) with three more wins over Kansas, Texas Tech and No. 4 TCU … had three touchdown passes and 192 yards in the win over Texas Tech … tallied 202 passing yards and two touchdowns in the upset win over No. 4 TCU … completed a career-high 27 passes and recorded 249 yards vs. West Virginia … missed the second half of the Oklahoma State game and the Baylor game with a shoulder injury … came back against Kansas State to throw for 264 yards and two touchdowns on 24-of-38 passing … led ISU to a win over No. 19 Memphis in the Liberty Bowl with a 314-yard passing game … completed 24-of-38 passes and two touchdowns vs. the Tigers.

They finished 8-5 that year; could have easily been 10-3, 11-2, or even better.

Or how about the football soul that Joel Lanning showed us...

Joel Lanning, another great story in ISU lore! Love it at the 7'05" mark where he and Coach Campbell do a side chest bump. Coach Campbell winds up on the grass. Haha!

Love it. I had a hard time holding it back also. Loved the former player (JD) jumping in the pool also (favorite), and the discrete "horns down" at the 5'45" mark!

The closer we get to the start of the season, the more I just can’t wait for it. So naturally I have to go back and watch some good memories of past Cyclones. How crazy are the stats that Lanning put up as a Cyclone? He was one of a kind.
Or how about the football soul that Joel Lanning showed us...

  • Over 2,500 passing yards and 20 passing TDs
  • 17 rushing TDs (including 5 in one game)
  • 114 tackles in a single season
  • Also 6 sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery
