The offense has zero identity

Montgomery had 20+ carries and averaged 4.7 ypc today. The OLine wasn't perfect, but for playing pretty vanilla on offense I'm not quite sure how the run game was so concerning. It certainly wasn't good against Iowa, I'm not going to try to argue that.
While it wasn’t as bad as some think, DM made a lot of those yards

Sacks aren't always a good stat to use. He only got sacked once, but the run blocking most of the day was porous. When you are continually getting blown up in the back field, something isn't working with the big boys. They can, and hopefully will, improve but today was not a great day for them.

It's really frustrating seeing DM get hit in the backfield on so many carries. If the OL could just give him enough space to get to consistently get to the LB's we'd be seeing a lot of 2nd and 5's and offense would run a LOT better.

I feel like people are overreacting.

Huh? I’m not talking about every down...and you can do a ton with 2 RB’s in backfield...We ran this all the time under Loney at times with both backs criss crossing...one going out for a pass..etc..

If u are a LB..which back has the ball? Instead of knowing for sure who has it. I disagree.

You make a good point.

Is there some "group think" going on here?

The only problem of substance I saw today was that we couldn't put the ball in the endzone when we got inside their 40 too many times today. Settled for FG's instead (though happy he made them all!)

If we had turned most of those FG's into TD's, and the final score was more like 38 to 13, almost no one would be complaining.

Don't get me wrong, inability to score TD's is a big deal (and will need to be worked on), but the offense as a whole wasn't that bad. Had several drives that went 50+ yards.

The reality that most people don't want to accept is that CMC wants to build this team in the mold of a big ten team. I don't think its supposed to be flashy.

Winning solves everything, but we haven't shown anything remotely fancy and we show our hand during running plays like nobodies business.

I don't buy the "keep plays secret" idea for any team. Each receiver has about 8 ways they can go. Put 3 WRs on the line and that's 512 possible routes + RBs in one formation. I think that idea is based more on football tradition than fact.

I would enjoy it if we came up with a gameplan that attacked a weakness in their defense. Then when they adjust we attack the new weakness in their defense the adjustment created.
.

Their strength is they are a ball-hawking defense and they get lots of TOs. Their weakness is leaving the underneath routes open. We did not force ourselves into their strength but did exactly what you wanted - game planned to exploit their weakness.

By all accounts it was successful.

Not if winning.
You must not remember the Mac era fan support very well.

I remember a couple senior days with a big 12 north title and shot to go to the championship game on the line, and Jack Trice was only half full.

Those teams were mostly paper tigers benefiting from a weak north. Any good team still pasted us. If Campbell can keep beating the OU’s and TCU’s it won’t matter the style, people will love it. If we were 3-1 right now instead of 1-2 with a win over either Iowa or OU and all tight games no one would be terribly concerned.

It’s not what he wants that’s a problem, it’s the execution of it.

There’s a difference between a bland unproductive offense that doesn’t fit the personnel and an offense that shortens the game, keeps turnovers low, and plays field position.

If that is what CMC is doing, He and JP do not realize that fan support and attendance will drop back to Mac era levels.
Last year we averaged 29.2 points per game. In 2005 we averaged 28.2. One extra point isn’t driving the increase in fan attendance. There’s not really a correlation to scoring and attendance the past 20 seasons.

You seem to forget that we still have Baylor, Kansas, and perhaps even including K-State on the schedule. Akron is better than these three schools any likely any of the three they've beaten.

Its funny you should bring up KState.....since they hired a new Offensive Coordinator's.....Two... count'em.... two twenty year olds, according to Chris Williams....How did that workout for the Mildcat's not so great with two field goals in sixty minutes.......

Do you really expect our fans to hang around and watch Barney Cotton Ball 2.0? It was bad enough the first time. Do not want to experience a squeal.

We had a dam good defense that was wasted on an inept offense. No one (except purple kitty fans trying to relive their glory years) wants to watch a game where we are trying to run the clock out in the second quarter while praying we can hang on to a two score lead.
