Pollard's goal statement arrived in the mail last week and is at Cyclones.com. I've long been troubled that we have not had stated goals and having a goal is the first step in reaching it.

I appreciate his objectives for the Directors' Cup - it shows an emphasis on all sports and an interest in adding sports.

I'm surprised and disappointed with the academic achievement - we have a lot of sports with mediocre female athletes and I thought they at least would have good academics.

Athletic achievement is about what I expected - poor - thank goodness for WBB and Gymnastics.

The next step is for the coaches to step up and declare their goals and commit to the steps necessary to achieve them.

Goal 3 - Five conference championships in the next five years - which teams will that be?

Don't sell the wrestling team short. We have had a couple of the best recruiting classes in the country to past few of years. The potential is there. Oky State is a big hurdle but it can be done.

Goal No. Four

I agree that WBB, Gymnastics and Wrestling may be the best prospects for conference championships since those are closest already.

Goal 4 is to have all teams finish in the upper half of the Big 12 within five years. Looking at the list of average finishes for each sport, this goal will not be easily achieved. We have to believe it is certainly doable with the proper committment and coach. I wonder if the right coaches are on campus for some sports - men's and women's track and golf, for example. For others, it may be motivational and helpful to recruiting just to have the goal.
