You’ll never see WW numbers or how we compare to other collectives on this board. The lack of transparency with NIL as a whole makes me wonder how real the other collectives numbers really are.
We have publicly available financial data as a 501c3 so nobody is hiding anything. In 2022, we raised $700,000. In 2023, it was $1.9 million. In 2024, we raised over $6.2 million.

Some collectives are privately held and don’t have to disclose financials so it’s hard to know for sure. But coaches talk and we have a pretty good idea who’s spending what and it’s petty clear based on the portal activity as well. We are very much in the bottom third in the Big 12 based on everything we know. Our coaches are doing incredible things with what we’ve provided candidly.

I’ll take that bet.

Besides the fact there are Big 12 schools that add major markets, adding markets is antiquated without conference network carriage being prominent part of revenue. Imo it is generally now just a proxy for ratings and subscribers.

A lot of changes are possible as we near 2032. The alignment of both postseason deals (along with our HC contracts) is ominous imo

When things blow up, it seems like odds are decent it means the top level needing to be a big tent politically. That would pull in at least one current Big 12 school. Maybe a lot.
You've made it very clear that you think most of the Big 12, except ISU, will make it into the SEC and Big 10.

It's also clear you're a wishcasting Iowa fan.

LMAO at anyone thinking that any of this is getting put back in the box. Limiting or eliminating NIL would never make it through the courts. This is the new norm. Either embrace it, deal with it, or maybe find a new form of entertainment. The NCAA had their chance to set up a pay structure for players but a bunch of old stubborn white men were too greedy so here we are.
To be honest the conferences are now working with congress to put up some legit guardrails starting with the House settlement going through. @cykadelic2 is dead on. This current administration and congress is likely to work on an exemption for these conferences and the new setup to prevent any litigation. That’s the end game.

I still wonder how paying $10+ million to 17 new guys ad a few million to the 65 other guys who have invested their time in a program is going establish a winning culture.

That's the thing, you can spend money on guys but just like pro sports just because you spend money doesn't mean they will be successful or be a good fit for your program. Especially guys that have not played at a P5 level before, sometimes they don't make the adjustment to better competition. Just another twist to NIL $ to watch over the coming years, coaches and AD are going to lose jobs over signings that don't live up to the $ investments being made especially with big splashes like this. If TT is not competing for Big 12 titles with this group not only will the NIL $ start to dry up when donors don't see results but those who recruited those players and signed off on the $ are going to be accountable too.

MLB is a good comparison where unlimited money doesn't necessarily equate to wins. Yeah the Dodgers spent a ton (5th) and got a World Series Championship out of it and the 2nd highest spenders the Yankees was their opponent. But the Mets spent more than any team in baseball last year and got the last wild card spot. They were the biggest spenders in 2023 too and missed the playoffs with a losing record. The top 3 teams in payroll that year all missed the playoffs. If you miss on your evaluations and fit it doesn't matter how much you spend there are going to be schools in the coming years that will be the MLB comparison of not spending money on the right players.

I assume that NIL payments are tax deductable. There should be a $2,000 limit on tax deductions for NIL. Maybe this will prioitize the small time donors that ISU has.

TV revenue needs to be taxed at a high rate. SEC and BIG would receive less net income.

Provo has a 260 billion dollar endowment for the church and a billionaire professional sports team owner. Easily top 5 resources in the NCAA, if they wanted to win a championship.
I doubt the church is going to dip into their endowment to advance BYU athletics. In their minds they have a higher calling than college sports. This is a church that evangelizes world wide. If they dip into their endowment it would be for that before college sports.

There are people who do podcasts about WVU who know exactly how much players are paid, but they have stressed they are forbidden to discuss actual dollar amounts. I'm a bit shocked Texas Tech has made their amounts paid public.

For ISU fans, I will say your NIL situation is "better than people think" and in "a good situation." That from Mike Asti, who covers WVU and has relationships with agents who do the deals with the various universities.

In the spirit of not ‘hiding anything’, can you disclose what the percentage split of what those dollars are per sport?

It varies by year as donors can allocate via sport but very roughly it’s 65 percent football, 30 percent men’s basketball, 5 percent women’s basketball. We do have a handful of donors who support volleyball and track and field. Wrestling has its own collective.

Still feels like a get rich quick scheme. Maybe it'll work out; maybe it won't. Call me old fashioned, but I like developing the bulk of our players in the same system for 4-5 years.
