You guys probably don't remember since you go on so many unrestrained and ill-informed tirades that they get lost in the shuffle, but you hung up on me when I tried to call in and insist that Cael's departure had nothing to do with Pollard. Cael had already addressed that theory on a few occasions, and he does so again in today's piece.

-- And for the conspiracy theorists out there, he also takes issue with the inference that there was some sort of conflict with Cyclones athletic director Jamie Pollard."That's not true at all. I like Jamie," Sanderson says. "He was supportive of the program. I mean, that's real simple. It has nothing to do with Jamie Pollard. That's not why (I left)." --

...Not that it matters, because you'll simply insist that Cael is withholding the truth. That makes the story much more sexy in your eyes, and allows you to disparage individuals who are entirely undeserving.

I said it from the beginning but Pollard is not stupid. He would not alienate one of the better athletic department programs out of some displeasure with Cael. Keep in mind he elevated Cael to the position so we would not lose him to Iowa or any other rival like we did with Gable long, long ago.

Also, this fits Cael's habits perfectly. The guy is a competitor and always looks for a new challenge. You will have a challenge anywhere you go but I think he really saw the opportunity to go to Penn State and make something "his". Before it's all said and done he could have as good of a coaching record as Gable if he catches lightning in a bottle and that has nothing to do with any feelings towards Pollard.

This thread ought to have a different title, because it really should be about more than validating one's self with two radio talk show hosts.

Is the wrestling program getting any needed renovations to it's facilities?

You can start your own thread.

I didn't appreciate being hung up on when I had an entirely valid point to make. These guys just like to sensationalize every piece of news, so they had no time for a caller that wasn't going to buy into their bogus story- a story with no facts to back it up, and a story that could be damaging to an individual's professional credibility.

It was a BS move, and I'm calling them on it.

This summer, I ran into Cody at the rec center during wrestling camp. We were talking about the move to Penn State and he said it was a very tough decision to make for Cael. Nothing to do with Jamie Pollard, by the way.

Personally, I was stunned when Cael left because of all the things he meant to this university and the kind of man he is. I had thought he would be here for life. But, after talking to Cody, I felt a lot better about the whole thing. I will still miss Cael when the season gets here but I'm all-in with KJ!!!

Actually I hung up on you, if it was you, when you accussed me of getting all of my show material from message boards.
If you want to believe what was written in the paper that's fine but come on what did you expect him to say.
Bottom line the most decorated athlete ISU has ever had who then went on to coach at the school he worked his you know what off at somehow decided to walk away.
He bled cardinal and gold and somehow right under his bosses nose he just up and left. Right!

Don't take it personal. I don't think Matt or Ken thought 5 seconds beyond your call no offense.

Instead of whining about a radio show host hanging up on you, why don't you pay more attention to the ISU 'fans' who called Cael a traitor when he left? I think that made his life more difficult than you getting hung up on.

They have an axe to grind with JP. Have for quite some time. Kenny's post above only reinforces this, IMO.

I don't get it, and personally don't like it. It's also why I don't give them much credibility on such subjects.

Just ignore it. The tuner is right there, close to the volume. I use it often.

Wrong guy, Ken. I simply mentioned that it had nothing to do with Pollard, and started to reference all of the interviews where Cael had said as much, then the shouting started and I was hung up on. You archive your shows, don't you? If I can figure out the date, we can all listen to the call and the ranting that came before and after.

Your "bottom line" doesn't make it okay to attack someone's professional credibility with no basis for doing so. Also, I'm not sure how you can insist that Cael bled cardinal and gold given what we actually know. Cael has said that he went to PSU because it was a better long-term opportunity. That doesn't tell me he bleeds cardinal and gold. That tells me he's looking for the greatest abundance of resources that he can to aid him in winning, and pre-existing loyalties are no better than second on his list of priorities.

Because those jagoff "fans" are meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Matt and Ken have a radio show that is broadcast in the state's largest metro area. If they're going to attack our athletic director with no basis for doing so, I'm going to call them on it. I tried to call into their show and do it in a civilized manner, but I wasn't allowed to.

Thank you for telling me what I should and should not pay attention to, by the way.

Cael leaving just showed me he was not confident enough in his coaching ability to win at Iowa State, where there is pressure to win and Iowa next door. At PSU, he feels like he can get better talent and win, despite the fact he's probably not a top 10 coach...

From a tactical standpoint, I hated how our wrestlers approached matches. So many times we had the better wrestler and our guys just barely hung on to win or blew it because we were too conservative. I am looking forward to a new appraoch with Kevin Jackson.

I'm apparently stupid in these matters.

But if this is what Cael is thinking ... I don't get how moving to PSU is going to aid him in bettering his chances. He can't be in the same state as iowa, but he'll move to the same conference?

What sense does that make? Looks to me like he's going up against iowa MORE often now. And his chances of winning the conference crowns probably goes down significantly. At least at ISU, he can get away from the hawks during Big XII matches.

I get that PSU has far deeper pockets. Not sure I buy into he "shadow of iowa" stuff though.

The way I read it is that Cael will not be in the shadow of Iowa anymore b/c he will not be competing for in-state talent against them. The entire nation knows that Iowa has great wrestling talent and when you have two traditional powerhouse programs in the same state, that h.s. wrestler must make a decision on which program he is going to. Now with Penn St, he will not be in direct competition against Iowa for recruits. Pennsylvania, along with New Jersey and New York also is a great area for wrestling talent and with Cael being at Penn St, he can take advantage of those areas and beat Iowa.

GOOD LUCK CAEL and as long as they are not wrestling ISU, GO PENN ST!!!

I think the biggest thing is now he doesn't have to recruit head-to-head with Iowa. Ohio, New York, and particularly Pennsylvania are figuring to be the newest "hotbeds" of wrestling talent. Outside of Ohio St and Penn, which are somewhat mediocre wrestling programs, who else is he really going to have to recruit against to get that talent? All he's really going to have to do is flash his 157(?)-0 NCAA record, his 4 NCAA titles, and his Olympic gold medals, as well as the tradition and the lore that is the Penn St athletic department, and how he wants to add Penn St Wrestling to those annals, and bam - instant recruiting success. Maybe he does have to go head-to-head against Iowa for the conference now. But if the depth of talent in the northeastern US is as deep as it is believed, maybe that's not such a bad thing for him.

Kennys retort against JP here reminds me of the year he thought Ohio State and Michigan should play for the national championship in football. Jim Waldon saved the day by not voting for that matchup thank goodness and then OSU and Michigan went out and got beat by 3 touchdowns each and all Kenny could do was blame Jim Walden.

Now it seams no matter how much proof comes from Cale or anyone with actual knowledge of the situation he wants to blame Jamie. Is there any question why Jamie will do Keiths show and not Kennys?

Exactly. It's mind-boggling to hear them complain about Jamie not coming on their show. What do they expect?

And it's not as if I want their show to be aggravating three-quarters of the time. I love having local programming available, and I usually tune in. But I'd rather listen to a show where people are given a fair shake, and we're not always jumping to conclusions. There was enough of that when Marty was still on board. I always though Ken was clearly the better half of that old duo, but I had greater hopes for the new show. So far, I've been disappointed.
