Got an email this evening with this time info. Wonder whether it will stay in place.

Same times as last year
True. However, I remember arriving “on time” and discovering they’d started letting people into the lots earlier because of the backup. Was not happy with that.

Catch 22 there because we can never complain about more tailgating but also agree that we shouldn’t be penalized for following the rules

Very big line of thunderstorms will pass over Ames tonight. They may get a huge amount of rain. Probably not what Jaime wants to see 36 hours before the grass lots open for the season's first tailgate. I'm guessing those lots can take a lot of rain, though, since the last few weeks have been so dry.

More and more people seem to be taking camp chairs and walking into to save their spots. As someone who often was at the front of the lineup of cars, I found it to be quite unethical.

Probably 1" of rain over a 12-hour period.
I'm sure Ames passed the 1" mark already. They've been getting more rain than Ankeny and Ankeny is getting slammed.

There was also a game or 2 that opened 30 minutes late. If you want to be first in line show up well before the official time

We remember that happening probably 3 years ago at the Iowa game. A “fan” of the opposite team was quite belligerent and nasty to people who were telling him he couldn’t be there yet.
Eventually we realized there had been people there (in the lots north of that road) since the night before. They had everything set up and were chilling outside their tents and cars. A good hour before the lots were to officially open. All I could think was, guess it IS who you know.

We did. Made a difference once as I recall.

Just checked my gauge in N. Ames 30 minutes ago, we had 7/10 of an inch in our gauge. Talking rain all night off and on and in the morning. Yards are really getting dry so they are going to take a lot of rain before they are soaked.

I don't know if it was an accident or deception but Jethros chef was on kxno this AM and said they do OK on games days in Ames because ISU changed tailgating times to open 4 hours before Kickoff so there's less time for people to be in the lots.

not sure i follow his logic

first off, the lots open 6hrs+ before kick

next, our home kicks have been 230pm and 1pm and Jethros doesnt open til 11am so how much more business can that really drive? anyone going to game is going to want to be in and out quickly

Starts at 3:28ish into this hour. He sounds very confident in saying ISU only opens lots 4hrs before:
