I have been reading up on some older forums on the debate between tailgate generators vs. the deep cycle marine battery use. I am currently debating which path to go...

Last season I invested in this Duracell Powerpack.

I didn't want to spend the coin on a generator, since the only use if for my stereo receive. If I purchased a deep cycle marine battery and hooked it up to this powerpack...would it last longer? I got about 2-3hrs of play time before the powerpack would be drained...any help/advice would help.

Also understand that the generator is probably the best way to go, but I don't really feel like 1,000+ bucks is worth it.

If it's just for a stereo I would guess about 5-8 hours depending on the size. I built a cooler stereo this summer and run a size 24 deep cell. Its a 240 watt stereo and drives a couple of 6x9s. It will last around 6 hours on a charge. And that isn't running the battery dry, its just running it down to 12.2 volts or 50%. Draining the deep cycle completely will ruin it if done too often. I would guess it would last for over 12 hours if I discharged it all the way down to 11.8

5-8 of additional hours would be great!

Anyone else have any experience with the deep cycle batteries? If so, let me know how you set yours up

Just build one of these and use your phone or MP3 player for tunes. 16 hours of pure joy!
1 deep cycle 1 amp speakers xover and you are set. Or really simple math to calculate how many amps your receiver draws. But the cooler is way more fun.
