This is true, except that At&T is worse, I have direct experience in comparing T-Mobile to AT&T. If you want good rural coverage, your only real choices are US and Verizon.

Yeah it looks like Verizon is my best bet. Not a fan of any of US Cellular's phones. Thanks everyone! Gotta love CF for advice on anything.

Going to Necro the **** out of this one.

Currently on Verizon, considering a switch to TMobile thanks to their unsubsidized no contract setup. Anyone able to offer reviews of TMobile in Des Moines/Ankeny and also around the state in general? Thanks!

TMobile is great. Their HSPA+ speeds aren't that far off from Verizon's 4G LTE speeds and obviously the HSPA+ is in a lot more places. Their general coverage map isn't as broad as Verizon's or ATT's, but it's not bad. Although if you want to go with TMobile coverage why wouldn't you just go with Straight Talk and get unlimited everything for $45 per month?

Never dealt with the smaller wireless companies but that is an option. With T-Mobile the fiancee and I can be on a plan together for $80 a month.

Straight Talk is through Walmart on t-mobile's network, so not sure how small it is. There are complaints about straight talk's terms and hidden soft caps, and people losing their numbers when they get dropped from Straight Talk, one concern I have as I'm looking at doing what you're doing.

I'm not a fan of straight talk. They essientily cap your data without really telling your. I would recommend Page Plus. They use Verizon network but they dont do 4g phone yet. You can use any Verzion phone except for 4g phones and verizon pre paid phones. The two big pluses to page plus imho is that it is pretty seamless to switch from Verizon to Page Plus and since its pre paid you can try it for a month and dump it if you dont like it. My wife and I use the TNT 1200 plan. 1200min 3000texts 250mb of data. $30.00 a month. Its not a ton of data but I use wifi at home and at work so I normally only go through about 50mb a month.

My roommate in Ames has t-mobile and pretty much all he ever does is complain about it. He's kind of a complainer though.
