I do not like the trend of getting fans to crowd fund stuff like this. It just erases the risk to the movie studios. These guys could fund this through the normal methods if they wanted to. Instead they are taking advantage of their fans.
Was just thinking the same thing...also surprised that in 20 hours they have almost got all the money they asked for.
Normally I agree, but these guys are more independent and I think if they were tied to a big name production, it would really hamstring their style and not give them 100% freedom to do all the stuff that we all find awesome. Also, they are known to get big names in doing small roles. I'm sure that costs them a pretty penny.
To me it's no different than serial podcast asking for donations to do a season 2.
Plus they wanted to prove there is actually interest in a sequel.
