Any YouTube recommendations for my kids to mix in with their Sunny and Melon Roblox videos and horrible shorts? We enjoy Mark Rober for some science and engineering, but I was wondering if anyone has some other good finds for kids educational.

It's not educational but we are enjoying Ryan Trahan's 50 states in 50 days series. I appreciate his overall positive approach on his channel. Bonus, we saw him in the Atlanta airport a few years ago. Our youngest happened to have found a penny just prior, so our oldest was brave enough to go up to him and give it to him. If you are familiar with his channel, this would make sense. He was very nice during their brief interaction.

Rober is awesome and is actually teaching kids some good things. Trahan is entertaining and positive. However, something about him makes me only able to take him in short chunks. Maybe I’m just jealous that a punk like that can make so much money doing absolutely nothing.

He's raised $1.4 million for St. Judes on this 50 states in 50 day series, but he had to call his dad for instructions on how to ignite a gas grill at one of his stays....

Exactly. Actually I didn’t know that about the philanthropic part of that. That’s cool.

YouTube is nearly banned from our house because of the garbage that ends up on the feed. Shorts are absolutely banned. They always end up in a hole where nobody is even speaking English anymore. It’s just grunts, noises or a completely different language.

When it does come on it’s a lot of fishing videos, National Geographic animal type videos and snake hunting. My middle kid will watch anything with a motor and wheels. He leans into the dirt bikes and 4 wheelers.

Well mix in some kids workout videos too. We have a small trampoline in the house and there are a couple decent channels making games out of it.

Ms Rachel was a staple for our youngest.

Please let your kids listen to other languages so that if they choose to pursue one later on or during their formal studies, they will be more likely to have a better accent. The brain loses the capacity to imitate sounds that don't exist in our native language around puberty. That's why any adult learning another language will always have some degree of a non-native accent when speaking it.

Do your kids a favor: help them be comfortable rather than judgmental around other languages and cultures.

That said, to truly defeat brain rot, I would recommend limiting all screen time.

But, hey, don't mind me, I'm re-reading "Travels with Charley". I read and fell in love with it when I was ten or twelve years old, and all these decades later, now that I am older than he was when he wrote it, it's even better.

I’m not quite sure you understand what this is. I’m all for being exposed to other languages but this is like some type of Eastern European kids and adults baby talking to brain rot videos and graphics.

The video is brain rot enough that I don’t even think the kids realize it’s not English. I’m all for educational but these are far from it.

Youtube banned except for Friday nights after 5pm. My kids are masters at finding loopholes so when I said only documentaries Sunday thru Thursday they someone tricked me into agreeing that Little House on the Prairie is a documentary on the 1870s.

Absolutely. Don't be afraid to expose your kids to other cultures and ideas. They can learn some amazing things.

The local library has their summer reading program. The 6 and 4 year old are signed up for that. Usually includes an activity once a week.
I got the six year old to put down the Star Wars and introduced him to Calvin and Hobbes. That has been good. Calvin and Hobbes has a pretty advanced vocabulary. You get to hear a 6 year old giggle cause he loves the antics of another 6 year old.
Picked up a Beast Academy puzzle book for a first grader. He grumbles a bit with it vs cause it is a little more work than a kindergartener familiar with. But he can do them and I think they are appropriate for where he’s at without diving into something that is beyond him.
Otherwise kids are outside or at the pool. Usually does a chore before going to the pool. Something that doesn’t take much time.
