For those with kids, what time to you call them back inside and get them into bed?

My 8-year-old daughter tried to voice her opinion last night and, of course, NO ONE ELSE has a bedtime in the summer. My reply: "You're little brother and sisters do, now get your jammies on."

I thought I was generous by extending her to 8:00 in the house and 8:30 in bed....

(Not that I plan to change anything as a result of this thread - I just wanted to see what others were doing)

You have her go to bed at 8:30 in the summer?! When I was that age I had to be in bed at 8:30 on school nights. On the weekends and summer it was like 10:30 or 11 or something.

2 yr. old 7pm, she's willing.
4 yr. old 7-7:30pm, he's got no choice. He can lay awake for an hour for all I care.
They're both up at sunrise no matter what time they go to bed.

I guess it depends on what time the kids need to be up in the morning and how much sleep they need. If they kid needs 11 hours of sleep, and needs to be up at 7:30, then 8:30 is when she needs to go to bed.

My kids are 3 and 5, and they're driving me crazy right now. They refuse to even get ready for bed while the sun is up. They don't have to be up early, so I'm letting bedtime slide for now.

Man that drove me nuts when I was like 7 or 8... there was still light out and I was having to get ready for bed. Even worse, I could hear kids still playing in the neighborhood!

Eventually got bed time slid back to around 9:00 or 9:30 but that still seemed early

Then again, I've always been a night person :wideeyed:

My wife grew up without a bedtime and mine was 8:30 year-round until middle school (even then, I never wanted to stay up past 9:00).

Now, I am most productive between 5:30 and 8:00am. My wife would sleep until 10:30 every day if she could.

The way I see it, my job is to train my kids and that includes sleeping habits. Since nothing good happens after 10:00pm, I would rather have them wiped out and ready for bed then and up early.

Yes, manipulation and parenting are synonyms. :jimlad:

6:45. Good god man, there is still like 2 1/2 hours of daylight left, especially this time of year.

Our oldest will be 2 in August, and she was in bed at 9 last night (due to being at Grandmas), but ended up sleeping until 845 this morning, which was nice, as she is usually awake no later than 630.

Our youngest is just over 5 months, and she usually wakes up as soon as it gets light enough in her room. Unfortunately for us, that rooms faces east, so that it about 530 right now. Come on Solstice!

That's what my 5-year-old thinks, and apparently I don't have a good rebuttal for her. They sleep in in the morning, and they seem to function well with the sleep they get, so I can't fight them too hard.

I've always been a night person. I think my bedtime was 9 when I was in grade school. I don't think I had a bedtime starting in middle school, but my parents went to bed at 10:30 and that's when I was expected to be in bed. In high school, I learned how to close my bedroom door, and I'd stay up past midnight on summer nights.

It's 9pm right now, and my kids are riding their bikes in our driveway. I need to get them ready for bed or they'll be up past midnight tonight.

I did that in grade school, reading books by my night light

In some summer nights in high school I had to make it a point to be in bed before my parents woke up... :wideeyed:

Wow, when I was in elementary school, bedtime was 10:30 on weekdays and midnight on weekends.

I have 10 & 13 year old girls. In the summer bed time is...whenever. Give them freedom and staying up late isn't as cool. They go to bed fine on their own.

We'd like to get them in bed by 8:00, but 9:00 hits it closer most nights. We don't take the kids to day care until about 8:30, so they generally aren't awake until 7:00. 4 and 2 year old both take 2 hour naps.

5-mo old. She goes to bed at 9:00 PM and then we creep quietly around the house with crossed fingers.

Been making it from 9PM - 7AM lately ... good times.
