Could someone post a summary of JP's hour long visit with M&M yesterday? I didn't have the chance to listen and would really like to hear his interview.

I e-mailed Ken earlier asking if he had it on podcast or something. I too had to miss it unfortunately.

I'll let you know what I find out.

This is what I received back from Ken Miller...

"The station podcasts Jon's stuff as well as Steve's but not ours. We're going to replay our conversation with Jamie at 7:20 Saturday morning."

Thanks!

If anyone has a brief summary, could they post it? I don't know how long it's been since I've seen 7:20am on a Saturday...

Jamie first announced that they sold 3 suites for football and basketball. He then spoke of the facility upgrades. A caller asked him if they hired someone for the fund raising feasabily study like the regions asked. His answer was awsome, "I don't need to pay someone to tell me what I already know." or something along those lines. He better described the TV deals with the Big XII and ended the speculation that some fans had with us going to the Big 11 Ten. He also stated how the Register got the Basketball Travelers story wrong with Marty & Miller agreeing.

The best part of the interview was Tommy from Des Moines calling in. JP joked that he remmebered meeting him at the meet the coaches night in Des Moines. Someone has to have a picture of Tommy from Des Moines.

Overall Marty and Miller gave JP a fair interview and they should be commended.

there is a holy god....

here is my post from a couple of days ago...
Ken,
I'm hoping for "tommy from DSM" to call in and have a one on one with Jamie...there is no one else more qualified intellectually from hawk nation for verbal wrestling with Jamie.
Can you make it so?

obviously..the radio talk-show gods have listened and gave us this verbal-sparring second only to the Churchill/Roosevelt/Stalin Yalta get-together of '45.
Do tell listeners...what delightful gems did Tommy interject during this fateful meeting of the minds???

Whatever he interjected was nasally and grating.

He had three questions: 1- Why is Oklahoma, Texas always on TV and the other schools are not. Tommy said how every Big 11 Ten teams are on.
2- What are you going to do about crowd controll.
And I can't remembe the third one.

JP answered #1 by saing that it is a demographics thing and when two top ten teams are playing, that game will be shown because that is what the viewers want.

He didn't address the crowd control issue, probally because it was a dumb question. he did address the third question but I can't remember it.

Also JP made another push for a Big Four Round Robin in Des Moines. He basically asked the U of I fans to push their administration for it. ALL SCHOOLS WOULD MAKE MORE MONEY ON THIS SETUP, with ticket sales being divided in 1/4th and corporate sponsorship. He did get respect from all of the Iowa fans with questions minus the one idiot who said, "Hawks rule" and hung up. It showed the IQ of their fans.

That is the one and only Tommy from Des Moines....The same guy that was hell-bent on running Ferentz out of town in favor of Stoops a few years ago, even after he made his first bowl game.

That Tommy sounds like he has the common sense of an earthworm crawling on cement on a hot summer afternoon. If a Pukeye said it, it must be true is the way that idiot thinks, although I am basing this on listening to him since September. I am sure his house is decked out to the hilt with EIU logos although it wouldn't take long to spraypaint the kittysparrow logo's on a cardboard box he sleeps in behind Sam's Club.

Back to Jamie though, I only caught about the last half hour with him on the show but was really impressed. The way he handled Tommy was unmatchable in that he mentioned that he talked to him the other night at the meet the coaches fundraiser to which Tommy says "OH no I wasn't there, I am a big Hawk fan" from the telephone booth in the Sam's Club parking lot.

I listened to the whole hour and I can't say that anything was new. Not that I expected anything new to most Cyclone fans that have followed news and such. He answered questions on his goals of our "$135 million gamble", answered questions about Witoski, the chances of a big 4 tournament, what a bottom line win number is for McCarney before he is fired and other such that is run over and over. The only new news was of course the 3 Hilton and 3 Jack Trice boxes being sold before they even exist. That was big news and great to hear! It was a great interview, but I can't say that Cyclone fans that are up to the date on news missed much!

The only thing that he said in regards to McCarney was this is the third coming of McCarney...The first was building the program...The second was sustaining the growth and the third will be a trip to the Big XII Championship/ major bowl game. He also credited Gene Smith for not pulling the plug on him after four seasons. JP said Mac gave the program the stability to take the next step on and off the field.

He did mention that in the facility plans, provisions will be put in place to allow for even more suites at Jack Trice, and possibly an upper deck in the south endzone if someone wants to put it there. I'm not sure if we should read into the fact that he said someone else would be putting it in and not him.
