Suits on flights

I have a flight on Thursday and bringing a suit. I don't want it to get wrinkly so I am trying to figure out the best way to bring it. I have come up with 3 options.

1 - Wear it. The only problem I have is that I think it might get wrinkled as I wear it around
2 - Check it. Folding a suit is not something I really want to do because of wrinkles
3 - Carry it on in a garment bag. My only concern with this, can I carry on a garment back and a backpack at the same time? Does Delta have coat racks/storage like some airlines do? I've honestly never flown on Delta.

You shouldn't have an issue having it hung on the plane. Just hand it to a flight attendant as you enter the plane and don't forget to take it when you leave.

Also you will have no trouble carrying on both a backpack and a garment bag.

Enter your time in Atlanta or Detroit too (or Minneapolis); if Detroit then the light show underground between the terminals is pretty cool so check it out.

I once read an article that said the best thing to do is wear it. It has the best chance of arriving the least wrinkled. The flight attendant can also hang your jacket while in fight. In addition, when you are wearing a suit, you are more likely to get a free seating upgrade if one is available.

If this used to be the case I don't think it is anymore. First up are the frequent fliers who get upgraded. Next they will look at the ticket codes and upgrade the highest fare classes. And usually there aren't any seats for upgrade anyway with fuller flights nowadays.

I have a big garment bag that gets checked. It can hold a couple of suits, several dress shirts, and a couple pairs of shoes.

If I'm traveling light I wear the jacket, and fold the suit pants and put them in my carry-on and wear jeans on the flight. The jacket might get a little wrinkled in the back, but the front is usually OK.

If your garment bag fits under the seat in front of you then you should be able to carry-on both a carry-on bag and the garment bag. Don't be that guy that puts two carry-on items in the overhead compartment!

Just throw it in your luggage; even a 100% wool suit is not going to get that wrinkly, and if it does, you can always press (iron) it at the hotel or wherever you're going.

DSM to Detroit to Charlotte on the way there. Charlotte to Atlanta to DSM on the way back. I've been to both before and that tunnel was undergoing renovations when I was in there so it wasn't really a light show. I'll have to check it out again. Thanks for the help.

Has anyone had an item they wished to hang and not been able to do so? What you are saying could be a real concern but I have never experienced it myself, nor noticed anyone else have that problem (but it's not like I'm paying attention to that so I'm not sure).

I just go with the pack it in a bag and turn the shower as hot as possible approach.

You'll probably be on a small regional jet to Detroit, might not even have first class or any real closet space. If your meeting is same day wear the suit and lay the jacket in an overhead. If it isn't same day just carry on in a garment bag, put in overhead with your briefcase under the seat in front of you, and iron at the hotel. No matter what you do it's gonna get at least a little wrinkly. Or you could always try this on the plane, but you may get tackled by an air marshall...

I've had good luck hanging it on the hook on the bathroom door at the hotel and leaving the shower on as hot as it will go with the door closed for a while. My own steam room that I don't have to pay the water/heating bill for.

I don't think they even have a closet to hang garment bags anymore except for 1st class.
