The bread at Jimmy John's is phenomenal. The only problem with there (and, if I remember correctly, Blimpie) is that they don't have the selection of toppings that you can get at other places. I pretty much just want some lettuce, mustard, and black olives on my sandwich.

I enjoy Quizno's, but not for their sandwiches. Their honey mustard chicken salad is really good, and pretty low-cal (especially since they put the dressing on the side). The pita bread that accompanies the sandwich is pretty good.

I know Panera isn't a "sub" place, but the Bacon Turkey Bravo is pretty much the best cold-meat sandwich ever.

Regular honey mustard chicken salad w/ dressing is nearly 1100 calories.
Small is roughly half that, but a still substantial 550 or so.

while we are on the subject, who misses the old wedge cut that subway did when they first arrived? Now it's the same old slice in half that everyone else does.

When I first started in high school they would still show us how to do it in case someone asked. I believe by time I left for college it was completely phased out though. This does remind me of my list of things that will **** off a subway employee however:

  1. Order a chicken pizziola
  2. Order a salmon sub when in season
  3. Attempt to tell them to what level you want your sub toasted
  4. Order a salad
  5. Ask for the old wedge cut
  6. Not as big of an issue now but, trying to use old sub club stamps

Hungry Hobo is gone now. The one on 100th was bought by someone else and the name changed.

And for small ma an pa deli's. Downtown Deli in Ames is still one of my all time favorites.

I think there is still a Hungry Hobo in the complex at the Hy-Vee on Grand.

The Hungry Hobo that was on 22nd in WDM is now a Smashburger.

Sub City in Cedar Falls is great. Perfect drunk food. Are there more Sub Citys around Iowa?

Wait, I need reasons why each of these **** off an employee?

Asking for a toasting level is bad? They usually burn mine, so I always ask for half toasted.

Ordering a salad? This seems easier than making a sandwich. You don't have to cut the bread, the rest are basicly toppings.

Is the chicken pizziola difficult to make or is it just because the name is ********?

The salads are a pain because they completely F up the flow of the assembly line (Veggies 1st, meat 2nd) and it was a little bit of a pain to chop up the deli meat and then have people be ticked about how you did it.

Chicken Pizziola sucked because it had like 3 more steps than a regular sandwich. Now this was before the toasters became really prevalent at Subway, so its probably better now. But back when you had to microwave, all the chicken strip sandwiches sorta sucked because of the wait slowing down the line, but the pizziola was by far the worst.

Don't get me started on the few months we had salmon. Due to food poisoning concerns we had to use separate knives for the sandwiches. We also had to cook the salmon in the toaster and then toast the actual sandwich. Took forever.

The other two:

Wedge cut isn't so bad, but none of those kids have ever had to do one and the people who ask for them are always so damn picky about how its done and not gracious at all.

The stamps...I worked the summer they ended the stamps and I swear every senior citizen within a 10 mile radius of our store waited until the week after the grace period ended to come to subway and try to unload two decades worth of old stamps.

Welch Ave really needs to get a Sub City.

It already has a subway and jimmy john's, plus Pita Pit as well. I still think a greasy burger joint there could do big business. I still think an A&W would rock where the fire station is now.
