My friends and I were looking at going to Kansas City for a weekend this spring for my buddy's bachelor party. I was trying to come up with some stuff to do while we are there. We have looked at possibly going for the Big 12 tournament weekend. I realize the ISU men will probably have lost by the Friday session but hopefully the women would still be playing.

Any ideas?

Although we plan to be drinking heavily, I doubt we'll be much into the stripclubs and stuff.

Thanks but I was hoping for some specific places that are the best. I realize all that stuff is there.
Glad to here you are not coming here to see the peelers. Missouri recently past laws that made them way lame. I really like Jackstack for BBQ. I agree on power and light. Westport has become a little sketchy.

Power and Light for the Big 12 Tourney is a blast. I highly recommend it and will be there myself (it's a tradition for me and my gang). Just hope the weather has broke at that point, usually it's 50/50. You will have fun even if the Cyclones aren't playing.

Agree with another poster, avoid Westport unless you can dodge bullets.

Go to the power and light district and stay there your whole trip. You won't regret it. I never have.

P&L for sure, during the tourney though that place will be packed for sure too. Howl at the Moon piano bar there is a good time.

I think the downtown KC hotels near the P&L are catching up to the demand of that weekend I think. The same hotel we got for the bargain price of $140 a night last year wants $209 right now I see. I was looking at the same place in November and maybe it was $199 then. This same hotel you can get for about $99 or less most weekends. Doubt we go down to the tourney this year but I'm guessing if we do again we are going to have to get a room somewhere not within walking distance of the Sprint Center. Last year we were just a few blocks away and that was great for not having to mess with traffic or a cab after a night of drinking.

- Dave and Buster's out at the Legends/Village West - bunch of video games and drinking - what's not to like
- WWI museum (not really a bachelor party activity but it's pretty darn cool)
- Jaeger's paintball -it's in the caves off of Highway 210 and I-435 - good time, you can bring your own beer in and drink while you play

And as the dude said above, the peeler situation will be bad in MO...most of the joints in MO are closing down because of the new legislation that went into effect.

P&L District, Westport, or Plaza areas for bars. P&L are the nicest but also most expensive, Westport is a little grungier but that can be real fun for a bunch of college kids. P&L and Plaza probably have hotter women there on any given night, Westport probably has the easier women. Tons of places to eat. Kona Grill on the Plaza is a good sushi/other food restaurant and their are an inordinate amount of hot women who go there. There are plenty of cool bars/restaurants in the suburbs also but I figure you guys want to be where the action is in the main city.

Strip bars are dead or dying (F you bible-thumping Missouri politicians!), so probably not worth hitting them since Lumberyard would be way better. Casinos are pretty cool in KC too, Ameristar is my favorite but Harrah's and Argoys are nice too.

If you are going the weekend of the Big 12 tourney you could also do the Irish fest in the north land durning the day on the 12th it's a blast going to bar Denium and Diamonds up there it's St paddy's day before St. Paddy's day.
Snake Saturday Parade & Festival

The boulevard tour is good (book early aka now)

Then out in the P&L area is good (bars: Shark bar, Mcfaddens, Howl at the Moon, Big Sky are all good)

there are many recommeding the P&L and it is a good time but after 2 days of drinking your wallet might want something else!
Honestly, things are not as bad in Westport as they use to be and not quite as good at the P&L as made out. Money is spent to spin those stories.
We have about the identical number of calls to both for certain problems.
I will say Howling at the Moon is a blast and really if you go up to the bowling alley there you will have a good nite.

The Brewery is a great thing if you are a beer drinker. I would definitely recommend bumping into ARSON and having him buy you a shot! Find out where you land for a hotel and know that starting this year the local PD's are making a concerted effort to "clean up" the drinking problems in regards to driving and public intox. Getting new gov't money for it.

Westport's reputation is way worse than its reality. Yes, P&L is nice but it's also a pretty sterile environment without any local flavor if that makes sense. You can have a lot of fun at either place but it depends on what you're looking for.
