Why not give every tax payer a government credit card/vouchers with 'x' amount that must be spent in the next 2-3 months. The money couldn't be saved and it had to be used soon or it would be invalid. This would force some spending. I've though about this for 30 seconds but would it work as at least part of a comprehensive package? I know I only spent about half of the stimulus money in 2008.
2 problems that I see with this, one money is a fungible commodity (I use the money that I have to spend on groceries or stuff I would usually buy and take that money and use it as I see fit), so as with the problem with all "stimulus checks" money doesn't increase spending it goes to into savings accounts and to pay down debt (unless you were like me and in college and it really did go to beer and loose women).
The other problem I see and someone correct me if my theory is wrong. But if we're all receiving money that we have to spend, and we all do actually go spend it on new tvs or cars or other products we can't afford. You create a false market for these things, and in 3 months when the economy falls again you have to stimulate again. Which is why the money is better spent on updating our roads and electric grid because along with providing jobs (which the stimulus check would also do though these jobs go to people living in america) you have a good that should exist for the next 5 to 10 years that is useful to the overall economy
*not saying this is actually where the money is going in this stimulus bill just saying this is where the money should of gone and yes I am a democrat though right now I think i'd probably vote for anyone who would use a little common sense instead of taking care of their pet projects(both parties)
