That guy was dropped quicker than a pass from Christensen to a Hawkeye receiver

The guy deserved to get tassed. All he had to do was listen to the cop. He could have just signed the ticket, and then appealed it. I have appealed a speeding ticket before and won, it's not that hard. The DOT doesn't have the money to fight appeals very hard. Walking away from a cop when he tells you not to move is a pretty stupid thing to do.

I hope that cop enjoys the unemployment line. I would have my wife bail me out and then head to local lawyer's office and file the biggest lawsuit that is permissionable. I think the youtube video somes it up.

Right, he should have let the guy run. Give me a break. This is why we have so much crime in this country. It's pretty simple, obey the rules, things are fine. Try to walk away from a cop when he tells you to put your hands behind your back, and you get tassed.

I love the look on the other cop's face as the guy is telling him the story... You can kinda see him thinking, 'dude, you're in deep crap'

I watched this again and it p*ssed me off even more the second time. Granted the guy could have simply turned around but the cop had ZERO right to taser him in that situation. If you go to the MyFox Utah site there is more to the video. I'm somewhat surprised the cop didn't taser the guys pregnant wife for jollies. Another Barney Fife that should carry a gun with no bullets. Obviously, there is an appropriate time for force to be used; situations such as this is why people a leary of law enforcement. I have nothing but the utmost respect for people who choose to be police officers, but they have to be held to a higher standard than this!!!

In my opinion if you dont cooperate with the cops they have every right to taser you. But then again, maybe it is because Im not stupid enough to ignore police instructions.

look at -7.22 and see him reach in his pocket.

Exactly. If your hands are in your pocket and you're walking away from a cop you are lucky that all you got was zaped. For those that think the cop is in the wrong I pray you don't have kids - because dealing with parents that think that way is what makes the job a being a teacher stressful.

Simple life lesson. Do as you are told by authorities or they'll do it their way

I am sorry but not signing a speeding ticket does not warrant the taser in my opinion.

He didn't get tasered because he wouldn't sign a ticket. He got tasered because not once did he do what he was ORDERED to do by the LEO. On top of that he had his hand in his pocket and he was walking away.
If you are that stupid you deserve more than being zaped. You need to loose your ability to reproduce.

cop had no right to taser him

edit
i didnt notice his hand in his pocket.. but still, the guy had the right not to sign the ticket and really i dont blame him for not listening to the cop when he tried to arrest him.. because the guy didnt start walking away with his hand in his pocket until the cop took the taser out

Well the whole reason the cop asked him to get out of the vehicle was because he wouldn't sign the ticket.

Sorry but I have seen my share of overzealous/power tripping cops and their antics in my life. I am sorry but look at the guy in the video, if the cop couldn't handle him without the taser I guess the cop should go back to training because the guy was not intimidating at all.

I think both were at fault here but the cop more because he over-reacted for the situation. He told the other cop he told the guy he would taser him if he did not stop which after watching it a 2nd time he pulled his taser out but never once told him if he did not stop he would taser him. I'm sure there are procedures they are trained on when to use a taser that he did not follow. The guy was not out of control or irrate at the officer and he asked him several times about the speeding and the officer did not once tell him how fast he was going unless the traffic going by covered up that part. Plus it sure looked like entrapment to me since he slowed down right before the 40, let the guy pass him them immediately pulled him over and notice how quick it took to slow down on top of it. Couldn't have been going that much over 40 if they could pull over that quickly.

I'd say this guy probably has a good case against this officer. The driver was not threatening the officer's safety or even attempted to run away plus he asked him several times to read him his rights which he never did. That part right there is probably going to be a big advantage for the driver as he was never read his rights nor told why he was being arrested. I agree he probably should have just signed the damn ticket, at that point you are screwed even if you weren't speeding but he wasn't creating enough havoc yet to ask him to get out of the car and taser him.

Was the person in the vehicle wrong.... Yup
Was the police officer responsible for using more force then needed? Certainly looked like it. I did not notice the hand in the pocket but I know the cop never mentioned it, so he likely wasn't worried about it.

The stop itself was clearly in a bogus speed trap. The temporary speed limit sign had a ridiculously low height, and on top of it, the cop was using his car to shield the following traffic's view of the sign. By the time the SUV driver could have seen the sign it was too late. The driver appeared to be trying to argue this point with the person who intentionally created the situation.

That said, the driver should have kept his mouth shut after realizing the cop was on a such a power trip and confrontational.
