So, I've committed to a Spartan Race this year with a group of old friends. I've been cycling for many years now and have completed numerous half-marathons/20K/10K/5Ks over the years, but never had considered anything like a Spartan.

My question, have any of you completed one of these and if so, what's the best prep/training you'd advise a noob???

There are 3 types: Sprint, Super and Death. We're doing the Super. 8-9 miles with some crazy adversity/obstacles. We're doing the Midwest one in the Chicago area in late October.

I've decided to do the Warrior Dash, thinking it might a good opportunity to see a similar type of event, albeit much shorter (5K).

Any feedback appreciated.

Ok, if not a Spartan, has anyone done obstacle race? Did you feel like you needed to up your resistance training, or did you focus on cardio/endurance without worrying much about strength?

My advice is this: At the finish line, do not try and avoid both people. Go straight for one and knock them the **** out.

I wondered about that at the finish. I assumed you need to just take your shot, then finish. The video shows a guy getting carted off on a stretcher!

There is also training info on the Warrior Dash page.

Warrior Dash | Information

I would focus on some endurance and stuff but if you are already completing all the races you have done then you should be good. You should look in to some training in like pull-up, push-up type activities to improve the obstacle portion.

That's all I'm doing now, pushups/pull ups/situps. I run or cycle daily.

Wondering if I should throw weights back in the mix, or just focus on body weight...
