The downside of the Allegiant flight was it typically departed Vegas early in the morning. I'd rather have a later departure and still have some usable time in Vegas on my last day.

Yeah, I've had to deal with that before too.
I basically just stay up all night then and hope to get some sleep on the ride back home.

I am flying Allegiant on April 1st out of CR I arrive at 10pm, then I leave at 2 pm on my last day so it pretty much wastes 2 days for me.

This is a huge accomplishment for Central Iowa! Southwest said all along that their route from DSM to Chicago Midway was on a "trial basis" meaning that we needed to show we would use Southwest or else they wouldn't expand or maybe even lose Southwest all together. So happy to see Southwest expanding again in Des Moines in less than a year!

I know that is Southwest, but there are no other flights west?
I know Allegiant has seasonal service to LAX and US Airways has service to Phoenix and United has service to Denver but otherwise there isn't much out of Des Moines that goes west.

Don't forget Frontier to Denver. That is a Denver flight by a Discount airline, which is always crucial to have in order to keep prices down. Frontier's wheelhouse is to move you out West.

Yes I forgot Frontier to Denver as well! I'm hoping Southwest in the near future adds more nonstops to LAX, Dallas, Orlando, and somewhere in between so maybe Nashville. I really do think this is just the beginning to Southwest's expansion into Des Moines.
