Medical FF in consi semis at 133, 141, 149, 157, 174, 197. That means no 5th place match in at least 6/10 weights, assuming the rest wrestle.. MFF.. still a major problem with our sport.
Huge issue. But how in the world do you fix it?

I don’t know but they could have them do a quick evaluation with the trainers to state their injury and have it documented. Then they have to get medically cleared by a doctor before they can compete or practice again from said injury. Making some process to compete again might limit it some

I’m not really sure the MFF are that big of an issue. Has anyone been to a wrestling tournament before? No one sticks around to watch consis. Even at NCAA there are hardly any fans on Saturday morning, and those matches are better than almost all of the finals of these holiday tournaments.

MFFs really only become an issue when guys use it after reaching a point in their conference tournaments where they know they'll advance to NCAA.

You know, like in the Big Ten finals last year.

That was going to be my example too. We were in Lincoln & a lot of people were pissed.

I think one way to stop some of the MFFs is to actually count them as a loss and have them go against potential ranking in the NCAA tournament.
I like this idea on the surface. Would be interesting to see what angle a coach would take on this. Would it discourage competing at tournaments? Can't really apply it to duals, but I'm not sure if that matters.

I hate this, but it is probably true. I have not been to many NCAA championships, but I get great seats for the placement matches because there are so many empty seats.

I know it's not apples-to-apples as teams brought varying strengths of lineups, but 8 of the 10 Scuffle champs were from the Big 12:

Oklahoma State: Fix (133), Plott (174), Wittlake (184)
NDSU: March (149), Franek (157), Pentz (197)
Missouri: Elam (HWT)
Northern Colorado: Alirez (141)

Alirez was MOW.

Three non-starters placing at this tournament shows some depth. And our starters will still be ranked even if we hoped they had done better.

I was trying to think how we would have stacked up in this tourney with our starters. I don't think that it was implausible to have had about 5 finalists. That being said, OSU came to wrestle, and performed well. NDSU seemed to be everywhere as well. If Monday has definitely moved to 165, Franek will be in the discussion for NC. Missouri underperformed from pre-seeds, but still had a good showing (They left a few at home that would have made a difference - Rocky Elam and O'Toole, off the top of my head). TNick (and Earl Hall) are really building something at NDSU, partially with some Iowa boys. Alirez is slick - very quick, and just puts it all together in every position. Great tournament. I hope that ISU makes this an annual thing. Great opportunity to meet up with some East coast teams. UTC is really trying to put on a quality tournament.

It seems to me we had 3 wrestle-off weights (33, 57, 74), one prep for next year (184), and the rest were rewards for dedication to the team and work in the room.
Redding seems the better option at 33 and looks to have his weight under control. Attasauov has good defense but no big move potential.
57 is what it is.
At 74 Gaitan has the most potential and is beating everyone else in the room according to Dresser. He and Rojas both made silly mistakes to give up sure wins.
Very glad to see Stotts make some strides.
