Yea, just having somebody down there that's even a threat to block shots is going to dramatically change how opponents try to attack us.
Plus it allows your guards to overplay on the perimeter. Because if they get beat they have a defensive presence to back them up. I see a lot more steals for break away dunks.

I have a unique situation here. I grew up here. I went to college here. My family is close and my wife's family is close. I know everyone in the community and my family is very comfortable here. My daughter has dreamed about one thing and that's going to Iowa State. The NBA is great and I love the NBA, but I love Iowa State and the opportunity I have here. We've really built something special and I think we've got real momentum to keep it going even more.

I personally think Niang should be the one to have the ball at the top of the key at the end of halves.

Fred Hoiberg said today that he's changing Iowa State's offense. Cyclones are more of an attacking team this year than a spot up team.

Makes sense from what I've seen of McKay and BDJ's highlights. Hogue and Nader seem to have the athleticism for it and Morris has bulked up. If those guys all attack the rim and Niang does his typical thing...lots of open shots for Naz and Thomas anyway.

Was going to post the same thing. Niang was our late in game ball handler and playmaker. Niang is who we will go to when we need a bucket, Monte will close games when we are in the lead, he is to good at the FT stripe not to.

Don't forget NAZ how many games did he win or put into overtime because of a last minute shot.... Monte did it once too even ed ozzie was clutch vs. Byu... who on isu isn't a closer? That was the dumbest tweet. Kane mad a big shot but wasn't our consistent closer.

Rothstein is pretty high on us right now, which I like. With McKay out to start the season, who is supposed to be the 5th starter? It seems obvious that Morris, BDJ, Niang, and Hogue are the starters, but who gets the 5th spot? Naz? Nader? Edozie? Thomas? I feel like there can be an argument made for any of those four. It'll be interesting to see Hoiberg's starting lineup in the first two games without Nader and Thomas.

I'd guess Naz until Nader is back from suspension

He compared McKay to Demarre Carroll because of the dreads.

...the more I read about ISU, the more I'm tempted to just set my expectations at 15 wins or something, so they can surpass that, and then REALLY blow me away with some crazy record and deep tourney run.

I feel like an Iowa football fan in August, except with a legitimate reason to be excited.

We lost so much, and not just in terns of stats. If we make the NCAA tournament for the 4th time in Fred's 5 years I will be fairly content. If we get in, we have the talent for anything to happen, a bit like UConn a season ago.

I'm sorry but beyond injuries, etc there is no way this team doesn't "get in".

I can see having that attitude in 2016 after we lose Niang, Naz, Nader and McKay but with what we're adding there is no way a Fred Hoiberg team doesn't get in the next two years

You may be right. Hopefully you are, of course. I think it is possible we are a bubble team in terms if quality.

What are we adding, exactly? IMO we are losing two great-to-elite guys in Ejim and Kane that were the foundation ofthe team and replacing them with several okay players, one of which will miss a good sized part of the year. Others here will disagree, but I think the B12 will be even harder this year in terms of facilitating invites (a better bottom half of the conference).

I could understand having some doubts and not wanting to be too optimistic the previous three years but this year? This years team has way too much proven veteran talent to miss the tourney.
