So, at 6 wins, does Iowa go to a bowl game?

Some squake fans (that I know) need to realize something 1st... Just because you have 6 wins, that makes you bowl eligible. That does not mean you are in fact bowl bound. Besides, if Iowa gets a motor city opportunity, its solely because of your "groupies" that travel so well, (embarassingly) it'll have nothing to do with the performance of your team.

Yes- they do travel well, as stated by this review of a Chicago hotel I stumbled across the other day:

"Great Location

Hotel was in-line with the price. The staff was helpful for the most part. It was nice that the room comes with a mini-fridge, so you can stock up on some snacks and beverages at a local Walgreens or Wholefoods. We did encounter some lewd acts in the vending machine room across from our room and while disturbing, the hotel did act fairly quickly. Also, I understand they cannot control all of their guests and apparently the Iowa/Husky football game brings some interesting folks to the city. All in all, I would stay at the hotel again, but in the future, request a room away from the elevator banks and vending machine room."

Iowa won't be going to the Las Vegas bowl, It's during finals week, and Barta has already said they won't accept any bowl offer during this time period.

My opinion - Who cares and why?

They have a lot more to be worried about at this point.

He is lying. They will go if that is it upon a vote of the players. Postpone the exams.

This is FOOTBALL. It is not intramurals!

See the players just voted and it is 3-2:

So what if they lose money if they go and take their band? TYhe Big Ten has deep pockets.

It is the first bowl game of the season. Great opportunity to gamble and lose on national TV at the same time. Better than Quad Cities casinos. Right, Tater?

According to CBS Sportsline, there will be 4 at-large bids (Armed Forces, Texas, Las Vegas, and Poinsettia). Navy has already accepted the at-large bid for the Poinsettia bowl, so that leaves 3 at-large bids remaining. They have projected South Carolina, TCU, and Purdue to gobble up these bids. Sorry folks - those that think that Iowa's going bowling again based on historic "homerism" might want to think again.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune in the bowl projections has Iowa playing in the Armed Forces Bowl instead of the Pac Ten Number 6.

Not with the rule change this year. A 6-6 team can't be picked before any other 7-5 team that can been picked. They are done for the season........HA

The drip PUkeye announcers are even saying this is definitely the last game and if there is any dipstick fanbase that is to optimistic it is them. When they know its over, it is over.

I know rules have changed but can't the Big 10 bowls take UI at 6-6 before one of the other Big 10 7-4 teams? The 7-4 team would then get an at-large bowl bid when another conference could not fill their obligation. When ISU went to Boise the Big 12 tried to get us in the Motor City bowl and Texas A&M at 6-6 to go to Boise, but A&M declined the bid so they could get on with firing their coach, and we had to go to Boise because of the conference tie in.

Which may happen but the Armed Forces Bowl cannot take 6-6 Iowa over a 7-5 team like Purdue.

Or a 7-5 TCU (they would need to beat SDSU this weekend), or a 7 win South Carolina (who would need to beat Clemson this weekend). Or any number of other 7 win teams.

The odds of Iowa going to a bowl game just aren't very good. Actually would be a good thing to put on cybookie.

It's not just a national rule, where at-large bids must select the 7-5 teams first, but it extends down to the conferences as well, so that the 7-5 teams must be selected to the conference tie-ins before the 6-6 teams (thus closing the loophole). Therefore, there's not a spot available for Iowa in-conference, and it's looking more and more like it won't be available for at-large bids either.

Is revenue from BCS bowls shared by the conference? I.E. if there are two teams from the Big 12 in the BCS is that better for ISU from a fiscal standpoint?

Actually, the ONLY way a 6-6 team can get into a bowl game ahead of a 7-5 team would be due to a conference tie-in. All 7 win teams must be selected first by the conference-affiliated bowls, but if all 7 win teams are selected and there are still affiliated bowl game tie-ins open, a 6 win team can be selected ahead of a non-conference 7 win team. This basically puts the 6-6 teams into the "worst" bowl games, but allows the bowls and conferences to honor their commitments. Had both Michigan state and Indiana lost last weekend, it would have made the motor city bowl available to 6-6 teams.
