Skiing in Colorado

So I'm going skiing in Colorado in less than a week, I was wondering which ski place is better.

We narrowed it down to:

1. Copper Mountains
2. Keystone Ski Resort
3. Winter Park

Which one do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance!

Never been to Winter Park, but I've done both Copper and Keystone... my weather bias says Copper, because it was bright and sunny that day with a fresh layer of snowfall all over the mountain... but I seem to remember loving the runs and the layout at Copper.

I love them all...but my absolute fav. out there is in leadville. Ski Cooper is awesome!! Its where they trained paratroopers during WWII and is very seldom busy. You almost always get a very nice, deep powder!!! Its also quite a bit cheaper if I remember correctly..

Cooper hands down. Keystone is ok for night skiing, but Copper beats Keystone overall no question

Never been to Winter Park....

Another good one is Brekenridge, but overall Copper is my favorite. You can't go wrong with that one

It really depends on what you're looking for. I enjoyed all three of them, but really like the resorts in summit county better, probably bc of their close poximity. So, you can go to different ones if you want. Keystone has some nice runs on the back mtns. Copper has some nice bowls in the back and top, with lift access (unlike keystone). I liked the runs at keystone better though. Winter park is set up kind of the same way as copper mtn. I haven't been there in such a long time. But honestly, all resorts in colorado are great and each have their good parts.

Of those three, Copper. Keystone is the worst resort in colorado, overcrowded and all ice.

Or skip summit county altogether and go to the best resort in the US, Steamboat.

I've experienced ice on all the ones listed above. I've always enjoyed each of them except Winter Park, where I've never been.

for me, it's Winter Park, hands down. You don't have to go through the tunnel to get there, just over berthoud pass. A few seasons ago they installed the Panoramic Express lift to the top of Parsen Bowl, which is great as well. The resort doesn't get near as crowded as the others, and the town still has the mountain town feel rather than the commercial fungus that has taken over the others. Personally, I feel keystone is too crowded and gets too icy, and Copper is boring, too wide, and most of the views are looking at I-70. The back bowls there are decent, but not as good as the skiing at Winter Park/Mary Jane.

After living in Colorado for two years, I'd have to say my two favorite ski resorts to go are Vail and Winter Park. Vail offers some back bowl experiences that you just don't get in Summit County. Winter Park offers a lot of variety...and where else can you say you rode Mary Jane?

Where are you staying? If you're staying in Summit County (Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne areas), I'd go to Copper of your choices. Winter Park is about 1.5 hours from Denver and 1.5 hours from Frisco, on good days. Awesome place, love WP especially with Mary Jane, but it is kinda out there all alone.

Personally, my favorite places in CO:
Loveland--over 50% above tree line, not crowded, more a locals area. Great terrain and powder
Steamboat--awesome powder, more isolated so a little less crowded
Vail--the back bowls are 2nd to none in Colorado
Copper--great variety, bowls are decent. Love the setup w/ about 1/3 of the mountain devoted to greens, blues, blacks each with not much overlap so if you're in the blacks you won't have to worry so much about a trail merging with a green full of people learning and going slow. On the same idea, if learning, great to be able to stay over in the mostly green area with people of generally similar abilities.

I have been to Keystone you my as well lace up your ice skates, atleast when I was there. I am going out to Winter Park for the 2nd time on Jan 8th, I am a big fan of the bumps I don't think it gets much better than WP for that. I have never been to Copper but heard good things, I would say you will have a good trip in CO no matter where ya go just make sure you have good friends cold beer, and I suppose skis.

Of the three you listed, Copper's your best bet.
My personal favorite is Vail, though you pay through the nose there.

I'd stay here and just head to Seven Oaks in Boone. The money you save could be put towards a better xmas gift for me next year. :yes:

Winter Park has great Handicap Sking. My brother is in a wheel chain and he got free lessons on a Mono-sled. They had trainers there for 1 leg skiers and blind skiers.

Also, I like how Winter Park is laid out. The Black and Blues do not run into the Greens. Only skied Copper and Keystone and they are very nice also.

I've ski's all three. Like them all.

Really you can't go wrong in Colorado.

I've ski'd Winter Park the most and have never had a bad day there. Keystone has always been good for me, but the lowest run can get a little icy. Great thing about Keystone is you can ski into the night.
