Seth Davis is an idiot and not bc of this. I just don't find him to be very good. Bilas is my favorite.

With the players he's worked for to bring in, and the relationship he has with current players, yeah I would be shocked. Not to mention his kids are all still in school, he's already set for life financially, he's just as hard core of an ISU fan as any of us, he's in his dream job, his parents and wife's parents live in Ames, he has a chance to win a title at ISU and become a legend,,..........YEah, why not go coach the Timberwolves and get fired after three years. Makes sense.

I don't know Fred but I think the logical leaps of "Your ego is going to make you want to try and do it against the best" is pretty unfounded. Why didn't Bobby Knight ever go to the NBA? Jim Calhoun? Dean Smith? John Wooden? Or why hasn't Coach K, Boehim, Roy Williams, Bill Self, Billy Donovan(he only left for a few days before nixing the deal), or Izzo gone to the NBA?
Those are some of the most successful coaches of the last 10-15 years or more, and none of them have ever coached in the NBA as a head coach. Why hasn't there ego said lets do this against the best?

They will most likely lose Love to a contender soon. They aren't in a location all of the free agents will flock to. The only chance they have to be good is to get lucky with multiple drafts in a row and overpay for free agents.
Fred's a good coach, but in the NBA it's so much more about what talent you can bring in. Fred would end up getting canned in a few years because of that.

he was asked specifically about it by Chris Mannix (guest hosting) who is an NBA guys. Neither Davis nor Mannix said Hoiberg would leave, in fact they specifically discussed how hard it would be to leave Ames. They both said the same thing: An NBA GM's first call would be to Hoiberg. We already knew that.

Agreed. Just because someone is a toolbox doesn't make them a troll. Doug Gottlieb, on the other hand, trolls this fan base.
I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that most Iowans on this board could make more $$ and advance their careers farther in a bigger market. So why is it unbelievable when a coach decides to stay too?

Coach K, Roy Williams, Donovan and Izzo all have been extremely close to leaving for the league at some point in their career, and none of them have the NBA playing or front office background that Fred has. So it is a very real temptation. Doesn't necessarily mean he will leave though.
