This is frustrating for me as a salesman because the last thing I want to do is bother my customers during their busiest and most important time of year. But.. each and every company places discount deadlines well ahead of where they used to be, so it is what it is I guess. I've just been making sure that the customer understands they can change the variety whenever they wish, and that the order is more of a quantity thing and less of a variety thing. And yes, obviously quantities can change as a result of harvest data as well.

I know its not the dealers, you get put in a bad situation. The problem is I have no idea on how many bags I am going to buy from a given company until I get most of my corn done.

What issues did you have with 1197? As I sit here working on my seed orders.

I was talking about 1151. I'm in the northern tier of counties in Iowa so if we're going that late it better have some horsepower and it was kind of disappointing. I also wasn't a huge fan of it's agronomics. All of that said, I'm biased. 0157 and 0506 were very good though.

For the North, 506 would be the one. That comes straight from the breeders mouth.

And the reason for the early sales is excess inventory. It's extremely expensive to carry over inventory you don't sell so buying early gives companies a better idea of what to condition and package. It also gives companies a better idea on budget issues for the next year.
