What is the best Seafood place around here? (Des Moines area to Ames area)

Searching the forums and google it seems like Splash and Waterfront are the top two.

Splash and Waterfront are both really good.
Bonefish out in West Glen (in WDSM) is also good.

Waterfront is the best.

The only problem I see is that it ain't "classy" enough. The people who I am helping out with this want something pretty nice. But I don't see a whole lot of pictures of Waterfront. So I might be wrong.

The time I went to Splash it seemed to be high on class and price, that's it. The food was "good," but it seemed that they wanted to fool me into thinking it was "great."

From my experience.

1. Waterfront (Clive)
1.a Waterfront (Ankeny)
2. Splash

Sushi:
1. Miyabi 9
.
.
.
.
2. Samuri - can't believe how good this is considering it's a chain
3. Taki

* Have heard good things about Appare sushi too but haven't been there. Also there is a place on Locust close to Wellmans/Star Bar area that I haven't tried.

I'd say Waterfront and Splash are about the same on food quality, but the atmosphere at Splash is way better, albeit the prices are higher. To me it's worth paying more for the atmosphere.

If you're looking sushi Miyabi 9 is where it's at and it isn't even close. No other sushi place in Central Iowa is even close.

I believe the Sushi chef at Miyabi 9 is one of only a handful of Sushi chef's in the entire country that is "allowed" to prepare puffer fish.

I went to Splash once and everyone in our group hated it. We all pretty much agreed to never go back. Just take em Hours Crab Shack, get a few drinks in them they won't care.

I have heard people will eat a small portion of that poison to get the paralyzed sensation...weird. I wont go near that, plus its really expensive.

The sushi place on Ingersoll by Star Bar is called sakari, its good

Miyabi 9 is awesome and it is confirmed as such by both food critics from the Register and Cityview. That said, both critics also have recently come out and said they now have some competition:

Wasbi Chi on Douglas in Des Moines. (used to be Timothy's Steakhouse, before that Silverstrian's Pizza. (here's the Cityview article...can't find the Register's at the moment)

Cityview | Central Iowa's Independent Weekly

For true a Seafood restaurant, I'd say Splash is #1 for both food and atmosphere.
