I don’t understand the rage on 235 sometimes. I’ll be doing a reasonable speed in the left lane…it’s fairly crowded (you’re not getting far if you pass me)…and some dude will ride my butt, eventually pass me on the right, and then flip me off while going by me.

How fast do some people want to go…and how are they not at least conscious that they are the one driving like a psycho? (And no, I’m not 70 years old.)
If they’re passing you on the right it sounds like you’re impeding traffic, which is a violation.

Maybe you’re right - I’ve never checked the law, but are you saying if I’m doing 65-67 in a 60…and I think it would be silly to get over because I have another person I’m going to pass soon…it’s the guy that passing me on the right doing 75 that is in the right?

About 10% of population seems to rage drive. Got tailgated for 1/2 mile on the Mpls parkway today because I was only driving 5 mph over the speed limit. I get the new 20 mph is trying but riding my ass when I am driving 27 or so isn't doing much but elevating your BP. Came to a stop sign with a turning lane and I got in that lane. Mr. Tailgate passed me and flew through the stop sign, barely slowing at all before I had even come to a stop at the sign.

^This. The left lane driver police who ***** about "slow people" in the "passing" lane are usually folks who just want to use the left lane as their personal express lane. In rush hour here there is no passing lane and no left right lane rules, it's fully jammed and ain't nobody getting much ahead but there a few guys still driving like they are trying work their way up int he pack at the Dayton 500.

That’s exactly what it means.

Son came home for Xmas last night. Proceeded to go out with friends later that night. Gets home at 1 this afternoon and proceeds to puke his guts out. Leaves to get food right after that. Best news I heard from him though was they ubered to and from the bars last night.

I don’t know what Minnesota law says about it. Bumper to bumper is an obvious situation where it doesn’t apply.

I looked it up - I do see a few states where it specifically says you have to be passing if using the left lane. Iowa is not one of those. You just need to be with the normal flow of traffic. I also recall a number of times where I’ve seen cops in the left lane with a trail of cars behind. Might be different in your state, but seems I at least have a right to do what I’m doing in this one.

Not saying I won’t begin to adjust, as I don’t enjoy making the crazy people angry…but it seems pretty clear they are in the wrong.

Did this not pass the House? I’m not looking too hard.

I have no idea. I looked at a map that showed a summary of the laws in all states, and Iowa was one that said you need to be traveling with the flow of traffic. You’re right, it seems that bill would have strengthened the law to say you need to be passing.

Still seems crazy to me. I understand/agree that it’s dumb to park in the left lane. My dad always said you are more likely to get pulled over - cops see you as the fastest one. I just can’t fathom the anger some people seem to have following someone doing a pretty decent speed. I guess they must not care at all about speed limits?

For me, it's not the situation of being behind someone going slower than I would like to go. It's when they make no progress to pass versus the vehicle adjacent in the right lane. Either just a selfish driver or completely oblivious (most of the time my money is on oblivious).

Obviously in heavy traffic this is not applicable.

Family planned to all gather at my parent's place.

Then I got sick. My sister got sick. My dad got sick. Even though we're hundreds of miles apart.

So we canceled getting together. Which came with some relief as it meant not having to travel anywhere.

I had a jackass pass me and the car in front of me in the left median a couple weeks ago on 235. Of course he was in a big pickup.

I knew a guy in Houston that would use the median, the shoulder, and I assume at some point probably a sidewalk. The joke whenever we would get stuck in stop and go traffic was “Hey, the PK lane is open”.
