I like that ISU has three running backs who have had quality carries as we enter the conference season. Each of the three bring something different to the position. Of course it is great to have one who has the strength and heart of a horse, an All-Conference, All-American, as the first among them.

I have some concerns about OL run blocking to this point, although two of the three defenses faced were quite good, and the third loaded up to defend against the run. I’m not knowledgeable enough to discern whether any problems are personnel, unit cohesion or schematic.

Regarding the run game, Brock Purdy adds considerably with his nifty abilities, whether in called QB running plays or on RPO plays. However, relying heavily on QB runs makes me nervous.

I agree the QB running always risks injury. But when a D goes all in on zero'ing in on 28, some easy runs will be there for Brock and he 100% needs to run it 5-6 times per game. Against unlv i think he had 5 runs for 30 yards. That's a about perfect in my eyes, takes some pressure off Breece.

I was a little down Jirehl didn't get more carries last game but Breece had it going, and we can see why Deon Silas has created some buzz for himself. We will continue to need a second back to give breece a breather.

This right here. We need Brock to take advantage of what the defense gives us when pass protection breaks down, and run it just enough to keep the defense from going all out on Breece. And slide or get out of bounds to keep from taking hits. But we don't want him taking too many designed QB runs.

Also need Purdy to take what's there in the passing game. Keeping the drive alive needs to be the priority.
