Way up there
I feel like Purdy madness is overshadowing how great the defense played against Justice Hill. He had his second most carries for his second worst total yards. Longest run was 8, he had busted big runs (20+yds)in every game except against South Alabama where he only had 9 carries. The Cowboys made their fair share of big plays but they definitely were determined to not let Hill beat them. He earned all 66 yards.

Things need to tighten up for deeper plays.

Looking at stats like Hill's and even Cornelius being held in check for yardage, sacks, etc., 42 points shouldn't be given up.

Every defense should be nervous against WVU. The game plan will be to stop the run and mix defensive looks for Grier and their o-line. After that you pray, and try to bend but don't break. Just like OSU, the impetus will be on the offense.

I'm not concerned that we gave up 42 to OSU. We weren't trying to control the clock as conservatively as previous games, and OSU averages 44 per game. Doing my own math, it looks like we held them to 2.8 pts per possession, which isn't altogether too bad in the Big 12. OSU was playing from behind most of the game too, which meant more aggressive play, and more bend from ISU's defense.

Add in the fact that I think we felt that the defense had to make some things happen. Definitely more blitzes mixed in than we had previously.

I’d like them to tighten up, but OkSt isn’t a BIG offense. They’re going to hit big plays. Under 3 points per possession isn’t too bad.

We like to zone blitz/run blitz. If the other team has a good QB we're going to get gashed sometimes. Feast or famine.

Depends on which B1G offense we're talking about but it's definitely a different pace than someone like Iowa.

I didn't see the 2nd half...were there a couple of TDs that were set up by ISU turnovers/sudden change? 48-28 would have been much more convincing and it looks like OSU's last two drives were a short one, and a big play with under a minute left.

Holding them to 415 is good too.

We had a punt take a freak bounce and hit Ruth in the shoulder, which set them up inside the 20 (I think).

I understand your apprehension, however Taylor Cornelius played lights out. He was under duress that whole game, I can't see Will Grier doing any better than what that kid played. I should say, as long as our defense plays the same way against West Virginia.

I think this was the general expectation coming into the season so it's not shocking, but this would be a great week to see some strides.

Teams simply are not going to rush for big yards against our front 7...too active and fast. Inexperience at safety has been exploited at times...even the corners have had a few oops. I like keeping teams one dimensional on offense...hmmm, sounds like us before the Okie State game.

Cornelius was very good if given time, and not the liability Cowboy fans suggest, but Grier is another level, particularly better under duress imo. Not only does WVU has a better OL, but outside of the KU game, Grier will likely be better at getting rid of the ball before pressure.
