Just my opinion. BUT, 'underdogs' are the popular (not betting) choice against the big boys because the sheer resentment of the system. This makes for a very large viewing audience and shouldn't be underestimated in the calculations.

Just calling out the hypocrisy of it all. The SEC sees us like you guys are referring to the G5. I know there will be bad games, but ultimately postseason college football needs to be about competition, and not about what’s most appealing to TV networks. I’m sure the first couple of games may not be interesting, but then after that you get the top tier teams against each other. I don’t need a wave of teams that can’t even win their conference to be playing again in post season just because that’s a better TV product. I already have that September - November during regular season.

At what point though do viewers abandon the game in a blowout? People still buy lottery tickets, knowing that's a blowout.

Memphis is an interesting case. They have more money to buy a team than probably several P4 teams. Problem is, how many really good players want to waste their talent against Rice, Tulsa, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, etc. Money can't solve everything.

5+11 gives the best G5 a shot, as well as 11 chances to have any other deserving G5 or P4 teams make the playoffs. As you said it’s about competition, and giving every G5 an automatic bid doesn’t create competition, it creates blowouts.

That quote has two parts to it.

Kelly is saying “yeah…we’ll go to a 9 game conference schedule, so long as we can play a Big10 team as part of our non-conference slate.”

Think of the ripple effect.

You think if Iowa is forced to play Mississippi State in the non-con, they are going to be all gung ho about keeping Iowa State on the schedule? The SEC isn’t going to drop their game with The Citadel in this scenario. They will drop their early game with Miami (or name another P4 school) instead.

If no Cy-Hawk game (for example), because of SEC/Big10 collusion, who do Big12 and ACC teams schedule in the non-conference?

The details so far are that USC is refusing to extend the ND series beyond 2026 until the B10/SEC scheduling BS is worked out. Essentially the same with Iowa on their deal with ISU. Fox has got their Puppet Pettiti Boy hard at work on this.

There are some big USC donors who aren't happy it.

No way they do more than 1 conference game between them. They’ll still all play 2 patsies.

But, the scheduling agreement would essentially lock out their ability to play ND or anyone from the ACC or Big12. Although I wouldn’t be surprised if ND sets up an agreement to play the 2 extra Big10 teams every year.

But as bad as it seems for the ACC and Big10, it’s even worse for ND. It’s going to be hard to fill out that schedule if they are shut out from most of the Big10.

The Big 10 teams will still schedule them. Maybe ISU should schedule them.
