Just another reminder that college coaches jumping to the NFL almost never work out. Pete Carroll is about the only success story I can even think of.

**** Vermeil is one but he had a short stint in college and after that it's definitely not a real long list that I can remember.

Carroll had significant experience as an NFL position coach and DC and as the head coach of the New England Patriots before he took the Southern Cal job. I see him less as a college coach who made the jump as an NFL guy who dropped down to college for a while but then went back up to the NFL level.

Maybe Jimmy Johnson but obviously that was a long time ago. For recent history, yeah, Pete is the only one that comes to me.

Pete’s so old the NFL success wasn’t stellar the first go round.

Dennis Erickson wasn't terrible in the NFL (with Seattle), not great but better than what came before him.
