As a Panthers fan thank God! Was never that excited about the hire. He's a college coach through and through in my opinion. You could tell he was in way over his head at Carolina. Granted my team sucks complete ass too, so not like he had much to work with if I am being honest.

Jimmy Johnson, and to a lesser extent Jim Harbaugh, also come to mind.

Johnson is definitely the unicorn of college coaches making the jump to success in the NFL.

Harbaugh is somewhat ambiguous to me because he played so long in the NFL (switching between starting and backup QB) and then was a position coach for the Raiders before taking a college job.

He feels like Hoiberg to me. Yeah, he coaches college some of the time but sees himself as an NFL guy. I could see him jumping back into the NFL at some point if some owner threw him enough money.

College coaches who are a-holes with control issues nearly always fail. There is so much you can't control in the NFL, plus you can't be a dictator, you must be a CEO. It's amazing to watch college coaches attempt to move up and not understand that. Ego trumps reality I guess.

Though I don't think Kingsbury will ever be an above average coach, I think what I referenced above makes him a better NFL coach. I've never got the impression that he is a control freak guy. If anything, he might be a little too laid back.

Well except for the part where he was wildly successful at being a professional league head coach and whereas Hoiberg was a disaster.

I don't think Rhule is even that good of a coach. He had one good year at Baylor and it was one of the Big 12's worst years. Somehow in 3 years at Baylor never beat a ranked team.
He took Temple from worst to first in three years, iirc, and beat PSU along the way. He also took Rapelor from worst to first in three years. It might be smoke and mirrors...I'd love for it to be smoke and mirrors and for UNL to get fooled, but I believe he could get Nebraska into the B1G CCG in three years if the joke B1G West still exists.
