Too soon? I guess it's still possible we miss the tournament over the next 3 years.

Yeah you never know. There are legendary coaches who have struggled to get talent to work.

Plugging in studs to the set foundation is easy to look forward to though.

My favs:

LOL

My taped Campbell story that I posted to this website disputes this

Still a weird post

Is this saying Pollard tracked down CMC or he did a thorough search there?

I thought it was a pretty quick deal.

I bet Tornado still looks fondly back on the McD years because he beat Iowa occasionally.

Wow. Crazy thread to go back and read. A lot of posters should be brushing their teeth like mad, trying to get the taste of **** out of their mouths. At the same time, anyone who tells you that they saw this kind of success on the court and in recruiting by this point in TJ's tenure is most likely lying.

Pollard flew to Toledo on his own accord without a meeting setup. CMC said he didn't even want to meet with him and said he was staying at Toldeo, CMC's wife told him he had to talk to Pollard. CMC told the babysitter it'll only be a half hour meeting and 4 hours later they had a deal in place.

All on tape. It was quick in that sense, but Pollard obviously tracked him down and sold him on ISU.

You can read my posts in the thread. The “success” is always a question because of how each person defines it, but anyone that had questions about his recruiting weren’t paying attention and were just big mad about not having a “search”. Like that’s fun or something.

Yeah, we all knew he could recruit. I think the intensity he coaches his players with while also being very respectful of the refs is amazing. Some people on here want him to kind of get the Bill Self type of Ts, and he keeps his mouth shut.

For me, I was a little concerned with Shaka going to Marquette because that has always seemed like TJ's backyard to recruit, and I think that could be a fun recruiting battle for a while but we obviously know what TJ is capable of.

But after he did the same for Richt, Norm Chow, and Sarkisian right? *jimlad*

Yes, his recruiting ability was a known, but in your wildest dreams did anyone think we'd be looking at a top 5-10 recruiting class in his first full cycle? TJ has vastly over performed by any standard you want to throw at him.

No. I honestly thought if TJ can keep us hovering around that 25 spot, we'd be in great shape.

Is there a CF podcast about what it is that TJ does to get the buy in or get good players?

He recruited Niang correct? Iirc Matt Thomas had a strong connection to him but I'd like to hear what got them hooked.

He seems like more of a meat and potatoes type and maybe it's just the straightforwardness?

I'll be the first to admit I was somewhat disappointed that we didn't cast a bigger net in our search when we hired TJ as I felt we could bring in someone with some proven head coaching experience and I was skeptical about the results TJ was getting at UNLV. I have been pleasantly surprised and am glad we hired TJ after what we saw on the court last season minus a few really awful scoring games at Hilton but the change in culture and vision TJ has brought in has been nothing short of amazing. I figured it would take him a few years to turn this around after a 2 win season and basically gutting the roster but the Sweet 16 run and now this 2023 recruiting class has erased any doubts I had when we first hired him.

I do think we are getting a better version of TJ than we would have had we hired him instead of Prohm. I think TJ going out and getting the experience as a head coach at 2 other schools before he came to ISU allowed him to come back to ISU as a better coach than he probably would have been taking the ISU job as his first head coaching job. He took this job not only with more experience but those years at SDSU and UNLV probably allowed him to figure out what kind of vision and program he wanted to run if he got the opportunity to come back to ISU and boy has he hit the ground running here and got this program back on track faster than anyone could have imagined! Really excited to see where he can take us in the coming years as the turnaround last year and now this top 3 recruiting class is going to build a lot of momentum going forward.

I didn’t think he wouldn’t be able to do it. Elite recruiter.

Certainly eating crow. I also initially didn’t like the Campbell hire and eating crow on that as well.

Maybe I should stick to IT?
I was pretty lukewarm on Campbell, but I straight up wanted him fired after the UNI game. We all have bad takes on here at some point. At least you aren't holding on to it like some people.

Those that don't trust their own merits, will have vacillating emotions. If you trust the reasons behind your thinking, 'patience' is a wonderful thing.
