Renting an Aerator in Ankeny

Unless you have some buddies to split the cost, just hire it out. It is like $50 for the evening, and then you have to do all the work. I had it done last year, it was $60 for someone to come over, do it all, and then sweep up.
The last two years I have split the cost of renting one with three or four of my neighbors. We rent from Sunbelt Rentals on 2nd St just north of I-80. If you rent it on a Saturday, you get it for the entire weekend. It costs us $88, which includes fees and taxes. You need a way to pick it up and haul it to your house though, then need to be able to return it on Monday morning.
Rent it, do it yourself and get some neighbors to go in with you. I rented it from a place here in Waukee and did 8 yards and paid $59. Makes it cheap.

we typically rent one from Ankeny Hardware on N. Ankeny Blvd. It's not $40 or $45 for 2 hours. My neighbor and I can usually haul it home do both lawns and haul it bake in the two hours. it's pretty easy. we don't rake up the pieces though so that's added work if you do that. we put it in the back of my Explorer. It was $95 or so for Perficut to do it, but there are a ton of independent people out there that'll do it. only issue you run into with some random guy is if you have a sprinkler system and he clips one of your heads.
I own one (long story) and will be in Ankeny on the 27-28th.
I'll throw it the back of the truck and let you use it.
