Hopefully he has a significant buyout in the new contract extension, (kind of against the establishing trend in college football) to help keep the poachers away.

Id guess he doesnt.

8 years in this case is probably more about us being able to lock Campbell up at a discount.

If things go well, it saves ISU money over the long run. If somehow **** spirals and he has to get canned in year 4-5, you don't end up paying any more in total than if you'd had a shorter but more expensive contract.

The buyout if he leaves probably doesn't matter too much if the common belief is true- that the only places he'd likely leave for would be that top tier of Ohio State, Notre Dame, etc. They could afford whatever buyout anyway.

You mean by supposedly turning down UNC?? Well that and signing an extension are two ways to take care of that situation. LOL
From what I heard never really offered as too many big power brokers are all locked in on Bill. Not that it matters much cause I don't think he'd leave but Chip Patterrson, a pretty good UNC alum, said the powers that be weren't sold on the idea

Doesn't matter. Like, I'm not trying to be mean, but if say Ohio State opened and they wanted him, there's no number that the NFL or some other programs could come up with that the buyout just won't matter.

Like if someone wanted to get Cignetti... him signing that new deal, for the right school, like Auburn, that a number won't matter.

Yes, in this day and age if someone really wants the coach they will come up with the money. The benefit on the other hand gives the school a leg up with money to hire a new coach.

What we have seen is the big spenders in CFB are willing to pay buyouts to acquire and fire coaches.

Campbell = top target. Belichick = option 2.

I have a hard time believing that a school would throw all their eggs in one basket for a guy who's never been a HC at the NCAA level and is almost 75 years old.

His girlfriend will feel right at home though with all the students being around her age. She'll probably make a lot of new friends.

I don’t think so. Their insiders were pretty sure they were trying to get Campbell. And offered.

Could be. Chip Patterson of CBS sports was pretty adamant though that it was a non starter. Because someone mentioned Chuck Martin at Miami (Oh) and his response was basically "if you can't sell them on Matt Campbell, you ain't selling them on Chuck Martin"
