I like the big12. I’m telling you what Washington thinks. Two very different things.
And I doubt most of the B12 cares about them. Not saying we would turn them down.
Read up on Iger’s earnings call yesterday for Disney. He is not unloading ESPN anytime soon. Chapek talked about it a bit before being ousted but this rumor needs to die for now.

They might ask what would their AD would look like without football. Stanford has traditionally prided itself on being the best school in Olympic sports. Could they do that as part of the WAC, MWC or a new California centric conference?
Issue I take with that is I do not beleive there are 16 teams out there who are money makers for each to add. Just mentally i checked off Florida State, Miami, UVA, UNC, Oregon, Washington, Clemson. Thats only 7, and some of those are borderline money schools as it is. Even if you assume Notre Dame will want in you're still short 8 teams who likely won't add anything money wise and basically all major markets covered. So like, how we getting there?
Also, im not sure how well thats going to be received. Who is the target market for NFL but shittier? How you avoiding antitrust lawsuits? Will the remaining schools boot the B1G and SEC from the NCAA Tournament, which is still the biggest money maker? Lots of reasons as to why that may fail
Yeah but it's basically true. And there's bitterness all the way up the chain. Go to a Harvard MBB game vs. Cornell or Penn or Dartmouth and you'll hear Harvard students chant "Safety School!" at them. Kind of funny actually.
Yeah, I don't think there is much too this right now. Who the heck would be the potential buyers even if they wanted to sell?

I would agree there are major challenges for the SEC & Big10 to grow beyond their current 16 schools. If ACC schools are somehow available, the SEC and Big10 may be able to reach 20 schools without decreasing their per school payouts. Adding ND could make an Oregon, Washington, or certain 2nd tier ACC schools make financial sense.
The NCAA Tournament isn't the "biggest money maker". The new NCAA Tournament agreement with CBS is going to pay the NCAA $1.1B annually (I believe it starts in 2025). A lot of experts predict a 12 team CFB Playoff is going to earn $2.0B annually and 80% of that money goes to P5 conferences.
If the Big 10 doesn't want UO and UW, Im not sold they'd want VT...I may be wrong.
Pretty sure he was thinking UVA. B1G has never been interested in VT from what I've seen and read.
They might not sell it, might just spin it off into a standalone stock from Disney.

This is the SUPERLEAGUE that I was flogging as the end game when this all started with USCLA. I still think it is very likely to happen, unless tradition ends up overcoming money. Which historically, money is undefeated.
Tradition went out the window long ago. It sucks but here we are and their is no turning back now.
Agree, we don’t need to kill the PAC, it’s actually better to severely injure the PAC and let them survive. Then when the ACC gets carved by the big ten and SEC, we can pick up the next best pieces. This allows the PAC and ACC to both be tweeners so not too many teams get promoted well, the big ten and SEC don’t decide to just go 2 super conferences of 20 or so, and we are a solid #3.
It doesn’t say we talked to SMU or when. Maybe it was the last go around we spoke and they called us recently figuring they want us more then the PAC.
Yes, but he positioned himself to do so. And since he's now focused on content related revenue, ESPN needs to be cost effective across the board. IMO, this is bad for P12 and good for all others in ESPN's camp ... unless ESPN goes belly up (which I doubt, but is a remote possibility due to their existing highly leveraged contracts). Seeing the streaming losses this past quarter are pretty staggering.
