Random Thoughts 18: The Year of Fire

There's been a couple of times I haven't tipped. Service has to be real bad if I don't tip.
The last time was less than a year ago. I wrote on the check "NO SERVICE" It was at a hotel. When I checked on the hotel bill breakfast wasn't on there so they must have comped it.

Another time I was at a Village Inn, the coffee was cold so it was obvious they just grabbed a pot that someone left at their table. Then she brought me the wrong food. I told her and she looked at her pad and confirmed what I had actually ordered. Then she came back later with the wrong food again, it was obviously old. I asked her if she was just giving me leftover stuff that was made by mistake.

I rarely no tip, someone told me that it sends the message better if you give a very small one or do like you did and write a reason on the check. If you no tip without a message, they will just think you are a douche and cheap. My BIL once told me that the sign for crappy service (said he learned this in the twin cities when he lived there) was to leave a penny in a water glass still with water in it. Not sure if that is something for the local diner he liked or legit.

Know a guy (big Hawkeye fan surprise) who I used to hang with in HS and he would routinely get rid of his change as tips. Dump out like 1.45 in dimes nickels and Pennies on a 10 dollar meal. Would tick us off.

Just watched Violent Femmes 40th Anniversary with the Milwaukee Symphonic Orchestra on PBS. That was fun. Was that a Weber Kettle being used as a percussive instrument? That sax was big! The bass player kicks *ss.

I don't eat as much cheese these days but Crystal Farms sharp cheddar works on about everything.

Probably why Wisconsin has the murderers. Getting constipated from too much cheese. Didn’t eat enough brats and kraut to counter it.
