My favorite line in the article:

ISU made 15 of its 17 free-throw attempts in the second half — and drained 10 in a row as the Knights tried to rally behind full-court pressure and fouls to extend the game.

My second favorite line in the article:

Cyclone reserves Nate Heise and Brandton Chatfield contributed their best offensive performances in several games, combining for 17 points and eight rebounds to help their team win its second game in a row.

That was a heck of a paragraph by Rob.

What is understated in that is that not only did they have 8 rebounds, but 5 of them were offensive rebounds (3 for Chat, 2 for Nate). Those extended possessions can just take the wind out of a team who struggles defensively but is trying to play good defense.

By the way, people talk about points as THE measure of how a player is playing offensively. Most people will acknowledge assists as another measure. Most don't acknowledge offensive rebounds, but I think they should. A player getting an offensive rebound and kicking it out and getting the hockey assist is just as critical to the offense as the guy hitting that open shot.

Or, as in the case of my favorite rebound of the game, a putback dunk by Chatfield.

I think just the ability to slash around from any point on the court makes a difference and Heise has that. Add in that he CAN hit a three here and there and it only helps.

His release last night seemed to be much quicker and I wonder if it's been drilled a bit for him in a 'just play' mode.
