After driving to work this morning and hearing the Big 10 commentator discuss "our superbowl" I was about ready to drive to iowa city and beat herky into the ground myself. Then I looked on the Daily website and read a commentary by a U-of-I writer (Football - Sports - Iowa State Daily)
Now I live in Ames, so I am not exposed to stupid Hawk fans everyday like most people are, but seriously how can Hawk Fans use their first two games as an indication as how the year will go.
Lets take a look at the two teams the hawks have played. Maine and FIU. Now for an up and coming program to play an easy schedule it is expected, but seriously, Iowa should (if they are intitled to the football greatness that we are all lead to believe that they are) be able to play better teams than this. FIU hasn't come off the Bottom 10 in 3 or 4 years. Their overall record is 16-51 and the past 2 years they have only won one game. Hawk fans are praising Ricky Stanzi as the best quarterback they have just because he didn't mess up the 7-on-7 drill that they played last week.
Also, I would hope that Shonne Green and their offensive line would be dominant in those games. I don't know the numbers but more than likely they outweighed the opponents by by more than a person. I wouldn't doubt that Green was probably the same size as their defensive ends. So all that the Hawks really know is that their linemen and running back can move thier feet enough to actually move the ball forward.
Then there is the line. I know even some (maybe 2 or 3) hawkeye fans are surprised by this number, but I just wished that whoever makes these lines would do some research into them. I don't like to talk about how we have won 7 out of 10 times, but people at least need to realize that it is a rivalry game.
Finally, I went to wikipedia to look at the series history and discovered that some Hawk fan decided to start their carrer in comedy. Cy-Hawk Trophy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Seriously, if you are going to lie on Wikipedia, at least make it entertaining like Iowa 88-ISU 3 (the only reason that I picked those numbers is because that is what Iowa has scored this year and most hawk fans believe that ISU is on that same level). I might have laughed if the number was high, but 28-14 not even a field goal splashed in there somewhere.
Well, I can't wait for the game tomorrow and I hope that ISU dominates so that I can see people walking out of kinnick early and booing their beloved team.
Sorry for the long rant...GO CYCLONES!!!
