I saw this question on the CN boards and thought it would be a good question for us to think about.

If you could, would you trade the win over Iowa for a win over Baylor?

My answer is yes. As much as i would have hated leaving JTS last year with a loss, going to the Big XII Championship game would have felt better.

Very good question. I would agree with a "yes" if it's just that simple, making the trade.

I do think the win over Iowa helped shape our season and give the team momentum - even though we rattled off a few close losses after.

Then again, maybe a loss to Iowa would have p*ssed the players off and we may have won more Big 12 games.

In the end, a trip to the Big 12 title game is bigger than a win over Iowa. I would expect the Hawks would say the same of us also.

yes..

I would have traded any of the Iowa victories for a win over Missouri, Kansas..or Baylor in the last couple of years,

Even the win in 2002 that kept Iowa out of the National Title game? or does that not count since it is in a year that we didn't have a chance for the north anyway.

I still think that even if Iowa did beat us in 2002, that Ohio State and Miami still would of been in the title game. there would of been 3 undefeated teams, and I think Iowa would of been the team left out.....

This may be unpopular, but who cares...

With the way our 2002 season ended, I would have rather had Iowa defeat us that year. We did nothing with the win - and they obviously had a great seaon.

If I had to pick between an one loss Iowa & 6 loss ISU or a undefeated Iowa and a 7 loss ISU (would have stayed six actually because the bowl game would not have taken place)...

I'll take the latter. Sure, it's nice to say we were the only team to defeat Iowa during the regualr season, but it's somewhat meaningless when our season stunk in the end.

Easy. I'd trade any Iowa win for something that gets us to the Big XII title game. I don't even need to think about this one.

In that scenario I would take the win over Iowa, however, I would have rather beat Nebraska last year or any year than Iowa...

seriously? i think you gotta take the conference w. not only does it put us in front of a national audience for an extra game, earning us some much needed pub,but it would also give isu some extra money for the changes that lie ahead.

Agreed. The more games we lost in 2002, the more I had wished we would have lost to Iowa too.

ARE YOU KIDDING? win against baylor instead of iowa? Iowa came in ranked 8th, that goes way beyond keeping a streak going with baylor. 23-3 will be remembered, us getting outplayed by baylor will be forgotten.

Us getting to the Big 12 title game would have been remembered by our recruits as well. That's a hell of a lot more important than anything else. I've been to Big 12 title games before as well, and I've had a great time. I want to see ISU play in one. Recruits don't care about ISU/Iowa. They care about winning championships. And that's what Baylor would have put us in a position to do. I mean I highly doubt ISU would have beaten Texas last year, but it's the chance do big things that's important.

A loss against iowa would have been forgotten. A big XII championship game appearance would have been remembered.

I gotta go w/ Goonies on this one. Iowa was nationally ranked and we beat them soundly. Had we gone to the Big 12 championship we'd have likely embarassed ourselves. I don't believe that Iowa is our superbowl at all, but I'm content with the way things went and wouldn't want to trade those 2 games.

Yeah, I'll take a Big 12 title game 10 times out of 10.

Plus, didn't we help Baylor break some sort of Big 12 road losing streak? That one won't be going away anytime soon...

are you guys on LSD? You wanted to play against Texas? You wanted us to be colorado getting hammered 70-0 on national tv? Colorado didn't even get a better bowl game? what woulda been the point. being named the 2006 big 12 weak-north champs? i'm not trying to be negative, im just saying no one was stopping texas last year.

well, for starters, we wouldnt be tagged as the perrenial chokers and we wouldnt be the team that ended Baylors winless conference road stretch. And we would be the team that won 5 of the last 8 against Iowa. And we would be the team got better recruits from the state of texas after they saw the great fight we would have put up against texas.

I think that some Cyclone fans are so intent on trying to show that we are on par with Iowa that they way underplay the importance of that game. Don't kid yourselves, you love that win as much as I do. Having those bragging rights for a year is great and goes a long way towards shutting up those Iowa fans. It also has to go a long ways towards fundraising and recruiting and it will be very difficult to catch up to Iowa in our own backyard with regards to those until we consistently beat them for quite a few years.

As far as the specific question goes, in hindsight I would have traded a win over a Big XII opponent for our win over Iowa last year. In any year that such a win would not be the deciding factor in winning the North though I would trade any Big 12 win for a win over Iowa.
