Sounds to me like he's talking about having to create an NIL system from scratch (which everyone pretty much had to do) vs having a good system already in place (which Penn State presumably does). As an aside, from reading about what Coach Rogers developed at WSU in terms of a "general manager" or whatever, sounds like he is bringing in a great system for that.
Overall though, people with axes to grind will find whatever they want in every comment. Coach Campbell was really complimentary of Jamie Pollard and Iowa State from all the quotes I have read.
He could have had a lifetime contract at ISU. If he "only" goes 8-4 after year 2 or 3 they will fire him. I hope he does well but expectations at PSU are much higher than in Ames.
I also think the defense (Heacock) kept us in countless games. Too bad he's leaving.

Sorry for the bringing back of all this.
For the record - I mostly like JP although there's some fishy stuff going on but that's another story for another year. Never been against him even when he doesn't make great hires.(which happens to everyone in the real world).
Also sounded like he was saying that Penn State started their funding in the AD while at ISU they had to start a collective. Wasn't starting the collective necessary because having the AD start it was expkicitly against the rules? Too bad ISU had to do things by the rules unlike the blue bloods.
They asked that AD (?), the guy sitting next to Matt, about the coaching search... and omg... such a horrible answer. I guess he was honest about it, that it was a total sh*t show, and you could tell that Matt was like their 5th, or worse, choice.
Then I guess there was some awful video leaked of the AD talking to some of the players a little while back... and he also had to apologize for that. It was a total mess of a presser. Almost feel bad for what Matt is walking into... but not really!

As Nick Saban said about Ped St, Matt Campbell is walking into a job where the AD and fans have unrealistic expectations. Nick asked “When was the last time they won the NC?” Matt’s ego says he can do it. History says not in the four or five years they’re going to give him.

Let me have my dream that the chapter isn’t closed, Roger’s crushed it for four years, goes to a big time program and we bring Campbell back after he’s fired for only winning 10 games a year and he retires here. A man can dream lol

Two different things. Pre revenue sharing, Campbell, Coaches, WeWill had to raise the money themselves. I think maybe because AD were supposed to stay away? I don't remember, it was and is the wild west.
Now, with revenue sharing, we need to raise money to fill the 20.5 million and the claim was that CMC left because he was discouraged from raising money strictly for football, because we have a limit pool of donations to pull from.
If all these corporations just did NIL deals, outside of ISU, with players instead of giving money to ISU... like the Audi deal with Fareway... we'd have wealthy players... but the department would go bankrupt... like Colorado almost is now.

Yeah- you know, the reality of is who are we at the end of the day? What does this person stand for and what do we stand for? What does that process look like growing forward? Man- that just says a lot about that guy's character. And wow- how can we continue to improve our craft?
Campbell was A.I. answers before A.I. answers were a thing.
Just listened to the clip. Campbell is basically saying ISU doesn't have the same resources as Penn State. Not really earth shattering news.
My takeaways from Matt's Presser:
1) the Penn State AD is a ******* moron
2) I read that Matt's motives were both to be closer to family AND about financial support. The specifics of each are murky and unimportant at this point regarding him leaving.
3) Matt is an authentic guy. I don't care what anyone else says, but he's not going to lie to your face. And he didn't through the whole process.
4) Interesting that his wife did help push him to the Penn State side of the argument. No ill will from me, but it was mentioned
5) I'll eventually pull up the youtube clip, but when the crowd literally laughed at Iowa State that we had to create our own collective (outside of the AD) and use evaluations to our advantage was a telling thing. B10 looking down their noses at everyone, nothing new there.

Exactly! JP was specifically prohibited from being involved in collectives when they first started.
