Agree... he's never been a very good "in game" coach... having a good plan going in, being able to make adjustments, clock management, etc. He's a pretty good coach at building a team in the offseason though IMO.

Heacock's half time adjustments carried Matt's ass through a lot of the highest points of the tenure.

All the credit in the world to Matt for building the culture, belief, identifying and developing players. As far as in game coaching though, not close to elite but had a DC that absolutely was

I think Kraft ordered Campbell to keep him on staff to prevent everyone on the team from entering the portal.

Reminds me of Prohm keeping Otz on staff for one year

I do believe they were favored in 10-11 of 12 games that season. Something like that. Every week, I just SMH.

We were favored at some point in 10/12 games this year (closed as a 1 point underdog vs Cincy but opened as favorites). Including every game of the 4 game skid. I have similar feelings of how that stretch went. Obviously this season had the injury factor but it was so frustrating

Matt Campbell was easily the best coach Iowa State's ever had.

He left a lot of wins on the table here, especially with bad special teams play.

The thing is, there really were no injuries on the offensive side, and the biggest issue during that losing streak was the offense just stunk. What Campbell did to bring ISU to relevancy was amazing, but to act like he's on the level of some of the best coaching and strategic minds in football is asinine. Penn State fans are in for a rude awakening come fall. I think even more so with Mouser.

When he catches the ball maybe, but that’s not a common thing.
