Make sure the dogs are locked up.Put the electric fence up last wk, 1 wire about 4-6 inches off the ground the 2nd wire about 4to 6 above that. If they cross the barrier it might be time for Golden Malrin and coke.

Back in the day I had a neighbor that planted a patch away from the building site in the middle of a commercial field but accessible by a waterway. He would take 2-3 marshmallows, soften them up in the microwave on a 6" paper plate and stir in about a teaspoon of Counter insecticide. The smell of dead coons in the patch was so strong it almost prohibited him from picking the sweetcorn. I relayed this info to a pest control guy that covered my seed shed when I had a dealership and his reply was "Don't tell anybody this, but we use that all the time in hay storage sheds".Put the electric fence up last wk, 1 wire about 4-6 inches off the ground the 2nd wire about 4to 6 above that. Pain in the butt to make sure it doesn't ground out.
Edit if they cross the barrier it might be time for Golden Malrin and coke
Dang.. I'm planning to pick up a few dozen from Deardorff in Adel on Friday to take on vacationHad first batch (Penick’s) on July 3rd, smaller ears but good flavor. Bought some again today (Deardorf) and it was a lot bigger, but flavor was lacking.
Wonder where Slims gets theirs from, saw they have it out now.Anderson sweet corn. SW of Story City always has top notch sweet corn. $7/dozen
That's the corn the local Fareway has been selling wondered where it was from. Not sure if any one is in Northern Iowa. but Jakes Sweetcorn is ready and they are picking!
Best Sweet Corn I've ever had, and I helped pick back in the day, so I'm biased.
i'm a bit of a sweet corn nerd...
there are new hybrids from IFSI (illinois foundation seed inc) with RMs of 67 days (Bolt, kickoff)... (Obsession is 81ish)...
these lack a good corn flavor but its overlooked because its so early.
most of the early sweetcorns in the north grocery stores are trucked in from Florida and then GA.. these need to be tough enough to withstand a machine picker, sorting and sitting on a truck for multiple days, week....
large majority of these are from Seminis: Obsession (non gmo Obsession II), 7143....
sweet corn with any GMO traits are not allowed to be sold in grocery stores without a ridiculous separation and segregation from other non GMO fresh veggies (federal law)... Grocery stores will not do this... basically killing this outlet.
peaches and cream has been dead for 25 years but people still use that as a common name for bicolor
if you are buying from a road side... its about 70% going to be a sweet corn with above and below ground protection (anything with a II behind the name).
Syngenta is the only sweet corn with a good above ground protection now (Viperta)...
Attribute II has tolerance to both glyphosate (roundup), glufosinate (liberty) AND bt11 (older worm protection that has likely been broken by resistance) but wait theres more!!! it has the viptera insect protection, this is still working for the bulk but we are seeing a resistance starting.
