I've got bit of disordered eating in my history. One way I overcome binges is by eating slowly, and this is just one of the tricks in my bag.
For me, it's a matter of family competitions to leave the "cleanest ear" behind after consuming all the kernels. One row at a time, plucked off with the bottom teeth. :D

So, little holders on the end or not?

I'm all for the holders. Like others have said, they keep you from burning your fingers.

I really thought this was going to be the whole row vs column debate. For the record, I like to do a circular 'column' on each end, and then typewriter row the rest.

We do cut corn off the cob in our house, but it's before freezing. Even our 1-yr old now prefers to eat off the cob.
I do this too. I find it comforting, like mowing the lawn. Also, I don't put butter or salt on my corn.

Agree on the butter and salt thing. Some people put more butter than corn. You're not fooling anyone, you don't even like corn. Just eat a stick of butter,
