Press conference

I am sure you have interviewed for many jobs, on both sides of the negotiation. Have you ever taken or offered a job without salary being discussed? If your brother or father did that would say I am glad you have trust or would you shake your head?

Depends on the people. There are people who are trustworthy and people who are not

They shook on the deal. And then Pollard prepared the contract it sounds like. I guess Campbell could have always not signed the contract if Pollard had tried to screw him. And Campbell could have pressured for more money. And then there might not have been a signed contract by Pollard.

Let's be thankful that both men were trustworthy. Pollard offered a fair contract for good money and Campbell thought it was fair as well.

Does it really matter when you're making over 7 figures with the cost of living in Ames IA?

When you're making that kind of money, cost of living is probably not important. But money is always important for nearly everyone.

I don't know who some of these people are, but here's a great shot of the faces after Randy asked his idiotic question.

"For ****s sake Pandy"

Somebody needs to set up a Death Match between Randy and Bob Brooks. And the winner has to take on CW's bear.

Yes. Money always matters to about 99% of the population.

Money matters, sure. But waiting to shake on the job until you have the precise details nailed down isn't necessary for everyone. Coach Campbell was making <$500k at Toledo. It is entirely reasonable that he cared more about fit in his new job rather than if he was getting a 3x, 4x or 5x raise.

does 1.8 vs 2.0 million really matter? at all? no

For everyone saying his agent would have told him the range...he doesn't have an agent per a couple of the beat guys on twitter. Just used a lawyer to sort out the contract. I assume he still knew the range though. Probably through the search firm maybe? Sounds like JP uses them for all of the logistics and initial feelers/contact.

I took a job where after a couple interviews we had agreed on me accepting. The interviewer said we will pay you in this range, about a 20% difference from top to bottom. I said fine, because I know you'll be bumping my pay after I deliver results that you weren't expecting. I ended up being one of the highest % raise individuals every year.

Sometimes you have confidence that you are stepping into a better pay situation and the pay scale has awhole lot more upside than where youre coming from.

Agree...and I think Rhoads definitely had a feeling of hope and "hard hat" that was needed as the Chiz left in such a quick way.

My initial impressions of Matt Cambell are that he is very measured/smart, honest and genuine, and knows football...great qualities....and seems to be a players coach in an uplifting manner.

And we have a winner. First one to misspell the new coach's name.

do you really think that? Come on. Use your head.

Randy asks dumb questions most of the time but I sort of understand why he asked the first one today...the crap about the tailgate will add some color to an article tonight. Although I would have asked it in one of the side interviews or later in the press conference.

Hipefully thats the the last time I defend him.

Yep, I really think that. Tongue-and-cheek means downright seriousness, right?

And if the bold above is your idea of defense, I sure hope Randy Pete has a better president of his fan club.
