Possible candidates for ISU's open OC position...

LOL, your hawks lost to everyone they played with a pulse. But that garbage conference was so pathetic, that they won 8 games.

I know the delusion in you group of misfits think you are some sort of national program, but you aren't. Noone cares about you, check TV ratings.

And I know the lack of grip on reality because you beat an equally ****** nebbie team has been off the charts.

A ****** nebby team with their third string QB no less.

Any chance we talk to somebody from Duke. They seem to score a lot of points and can't have a very big budget.

He was already hired by Florida

Bummer. Didn't realize that. I wonder if we could have got him before Florida did, since he's from Ames? Probably not.

I don't know what to think about this search right now though. I really hope we're just waiting for someone's bowl game to be over or something because I don't understand what is taking so long here. This has the Messingham hire written all over it, and that scares me.

If we take a long time, and then end up promoting Klenakis, that looks HORRIBLE, just like Mess' hire was. It's as if we couldn't get anyone else to come here, and so we decided to just promote from within. If we were going to hire Klenakis, we should have done so a long time ago IMO.

And it does impact recruiting IMO. But maybe the recruits have already been told who the hire will be? I know if I was an offensive player coming to ISU, I'd want to know who my coach was going to be.

Roper is making $600,000/year at Florida as an OC. Now we know what the going rate is. To get a good OC at ISU, need to come up with some cash.

Edit: And Duke was ranked 68th nationally in total offense this year.

I disagree with it looking bad if we hire Klenakis or Sturdy. I look at it from the perspective that CPR is exploring all possibilities. And that takes a long time, some guys he may want to talk to might not want to talk until after their Bowl game. If after interviewing numerous people CPR decides that K or Sturdy is the right person then so be it. As far as recruiting, it may bother some (see Mister) but most recruits know how the business works and as long as CPR is the head man they will be happy (see Lazzard).

It's not about money for ISU right now. This is the most important hire in a long time IMO. This athletic dept. has roughly $25-$30 million MORE coming in starting this year from TV revenue alone. Are you kidding me? Our revenue just quadrupled folks. Sure we have debts to pay off from all the facilities etc.. but we borrowed that money at dirt cheap rates. Not to mention the $25 million gift. Go get a stud OC and pay him $600-$700k a year for 3-4 years. You waive that kind of money and most any OC will look at it. Most OC's want to become a HC and making lateral moves or lower moves is sometimes beneficial to them as it shows they can win anywhere.

I guess my point is that I find it hard to believe that money is an issue. 10 years ago sure but not today. This athletic dept. is rolling in $$ right now like never before and it's time to pony up and make things happen for this team offensively.

Either would have been a good hire....a month ago. Hiring them now would look like last ditch efforts.

Hiring Klenakis after all of this would be absolutely nothing like hiring Messingham.

There was literally nothing in Messingham's resume that suggests he was qualified for this job. I know that I accepted it just because Rhoads hadn't made any prior mis-steps, and I gave him (Rhoads) the benefit of the doubt.
Klenakis has proven to be a successful OC, at an FBS school. That is FAR more than Mess ever could say. Again, the only thing that promoting Klenakis would have in common with promoting Mess was the fact that they were both on staff.

I guess I am someone who doesn't give a **** about how something looks. Hiring K or Sturdy a month ago without interviewing other coaches would have been a disservice to the team. CPR wants to explore all possibilities before naming a coach and that is what he is doing.

As for being able to throw alot of money at an OC because we are making more money from the Big 12 you are going to be disappointed. I am sure JP will give CPR some more money to throw around but I guarantee you he isn't giving CPR $600-700 a year to throw at a OC. I am willing to bet that amount isn't over $400,000.

A guy on the other board said we will announce the new OC next week, so it looks like we have our guy.

That's hardly news, Rhoads has said he wants to have a guy in place by the next recruiting period. Everyone has been saying they want their hires done by January 15.

Seriously? Of course, it would be nice to have the decision made, but it is no stretch at all to say that a mid-January decision is just a good, normal process, particularly since you really probably can't even interview some prospects until after their bowl games.

I guess the point being.... if we are going to announce next week (as stated by the poster) we know who it is going to be already.
