I'm guessing the last thing Novak wanted was to play a 5 setter that might go 5 hours, plus it might get suspended due to curfew.Djokovic & Auger-Aliassime heading to a 5th set on ESPN.
Heading to a 5th set tie-break. Been playing for 5 hours.Djokovic & Auger-Aliassime heading to a 5th set on ESPN.
Great match could hurt Djokovic's chances against Sinner but does get 2 days off. Sinners level this year hasn't been as high as last. Think my odds chart right now is
Not a good effort from Fritz. Zverev is notoriously bad on grass, and it's probably Fritz's best surface. With an easy path to the final if he had won too.
I don't think Zverev has ever been better. You can just see the confidence winning a slam sometimes take guys in opposite directions I think he's definitely better for it. He's got close to a coin flip shot imo Sunday regardless of how 2nd semi plays out.
Interested to see how Djokovic looks early against Sinner after 5 hour QF match. Last year when these 2 played in Semi he looked exhausted. Australian Open opposite. If it's close in late stages I'll favor Djokovic
He got lucky in that in final he didn't have to beat Sinner or Alcaraz but just beating really good players like Jodar, mensik, and cobolli wasn't something he always used to do. His play was more erratic particularly his Serve and Forehand that seems to all of been buttoned up. He's always been very good but now he's elite imo. If it's him vs Sinner I'm final I personally give him a better shot than i would of in January.I just texted someone that Zverev couldn't have asked for a more favorable path at Roland Garros, and now with Sinner not playing at his best (a high bar, to be fair), Zverev may never have a better opportunity to win back-to-back slams. Yes, it's absolutely a mental switch that's been flipped, and you can see that the physical ingredients were there all along. Pressure and expectations can cripple even the most talented of athletes
Djokovic, probably for years now, has done what no youth coach would ever teach, and picks his spots in tightly contested matches. You can do that when you've truly mastered your craft and are the GOAT. I expect him to be going all in on Sinner's serve early. Djokovic knows what his last match does to a 39-year-old body vs. a 24, and knows that Sinner knows that too. As usual (personally I'm over it), I predict the pressure will, somehow, be on the much-younger Sinner in the first few sets
You can argue a lot of who's better at what within a lot of legends if you break down their games but I don't think anyone would argue there's never been anyone better in the biggest pressure spots than Djokovic. I'm talking like 5-5 in a Semi or final vs another great player. I almost always expect him to pull it out even though it should be 50/50
