They're kind of cutesy and silly sure.
But if you read them as either...
(a) a stand-in for tribal societies standing up against colonial empires
...or...
(b) or as a lesson that we all can do something to help defeat evil, if we are small and weak and simple, that heart and brains matters more than might...
...I think they are pretty cool.
Yes, some of the moments are stupid (who knew Stormtrooper armor was useless against blasters *and* small rocks thrown by creatures <4' tall or so). However, for every one of those, there is a cool one (the logs crushing the walker) or an emotive one (when one dies from a laser blast, his friend gets up to wave him up, and then realizes that the first is gone).
Wars have casualties. Even ones in the stars.
They are silly and pushing the line, but their society and role in the Battle of Endor is actually a pretty good bit of world-building on the part of The Return of the Jedi.
