Which leads me to a question for old timers that are even older than me. How long has Pizza Pit been around and has it always been at that same location? I know it goes back to at least the late 70s.
I was a freshman F77. It was there then but the bar underneath was The Library. I was not a Pizza Pit fan back then, I preferred Pizza House, Green Pepper, and Minsky’s. Ames was pizza paradise back then.

Absolutely LOVED Minsky's. A sad day when it went away (felt the same way about DaVinci's, too).

You are not kidding! The inferno wings are good at first then the heat really sneaks up on you. Back in college a guy on my floor and I would order 2 lbs of wings to split at least once a week. One time we were about 3 or 4 wings in and we both noticed the wings seemed a lot more spicy than usual. He checks the box and finds out they gave us inferno wings instead of the regular wings. Needless to say we both felt the burn that night and next day from them.

My freshman year at least once or twice a week we'd all order the $5 late night special 1 topping pizzas and I'm sure I probably had nights I ate a whole pizza myself. The sandwiches are great too, I like the roast beef and classic combo the most. Usually could find coupons in booklets they had at the MU and book stores where you could get a deal on those something like 2 sandwiches, chips, pickles, and cans of pop for like $10.99 which was a few bucks off their normal price. Pizza Pit is definitely one of those staples you have to make a point to get when you have a chance to when you come to Ames. Just so happens Welch Ave Station was and still is my favorite bar in Ames. They used to have $1 daquiris on Thursdays, not a lot of liquor in them but they were so good. Usually got some garlic cheese bread or Moz sticks as an app those nights too
You just tripped my history brain...do they still have those coupon booklets at the MU? Most of the deals sucked in them during my time 07-11 but there still would be a few that were worth it.

Someone here knows.... and I want answers.

HOW ARE THEY MADE?

Are they made from scratch in house? Do they come pre-cooked/breaded? Do they fry them or send them through the pizza oven? How are they perfect?
Pretty sure they get the Infernos from Burke in Nevada last I heard. Had a buddy that worked there and used to get them by the bag for his house.

We get them EVERY time we are back for a home game.....and they let me know why I only eat them a couple times a year the next day......whoof.

Minsky's is alive and kicking in KC still. There's at least a dozen locations there.
Thanks for the info. I'm going to have to go to one of them next time I'm there (hoping to make it to the Arrowhead game)!

Here you go:

The wings are produced or at least distributed by the company in the link below. You can tell because of the trademarked phrase "the heat is in the meat." I believe that phrase was on the menu or box when I worked at Pizza Pit in the 90's.

They are fried in an automated and timed fryer where the wings are loaded in the top and ejected out the side after so many minutes. That's why they are perfectly cooked every time.

i definitely see these wings around every once in a while. Look for the word inferno or that phrase and boom you can have infeeno ass all over again.

The Ames Pizza Pit sandwiches don't get enough love. The ham with kraut is dynamite.

I either worked at or had roomates/friends that worked at basically every pizza joint in Ames in the late nineties/early aughts, including DaVinci's, GPS&D, Home Team, Happy Joe'sand others if anyone needs the scoop.

I survived off their cheese bread and $2 draft special for 3 consecutive years. Plus pool tables, popcorn, Brooke and the general nostalgia. Easily the most underrated place in Ames.
I always loved that their ads in the ISU Daily mentioned that they used glass. It showed me at a "keggar age" that they were a serious bar.

I think it was Brakebush that used to sell packaged grilled chicken strips/tenders you could get at Hy-Vee that were just delicious. They'd come in packages of like 5 or 6 you could find on the shelf with the meat items.

Used to love going to games in the late 90's/ early 00's because it meant playing the arcade games and taco pizza at Happy Joe's afterwards or quesadillas from O'Malley McGee's

My sophomore year one of my roommates took all the leftovers after the first weekend at the MU. We had coupons for the $4.99 XL Papa John’s deal all year!

Glass and “progressive pitches!”
Heck yeah!
I think my first foray into WAS they were maybe $2.75
What was it, like every hour they went up a quarter and it started at like 3 or 4?

By my time in 07-08 I think it went up a little more than a quarter, but still topped out at $5-6 for the largest pitcher later in the evening. The majority of my Fri and Sat were spent at Welch
