I'm going through a tightwad phase and trying to be frugal. One of the areas I'm cutting back is I'm bringing my own generic pop to work.

So far I've tried Diet Hee-Haw (Hy-Vee's Mt. Dew), Dr. Hy-Vee and Dr. Thunder (Wal-mart). All are pretty decent but I'd have to say Dr. Thunder has been my favorite so far.

FYI, my friend who's a manager for Hy-Vee swears their generic sodas are manufactured by Dr. Pepper/Snapple group. Wal-mart pop is made by Cott's in Canada.

Anyone else got any favorites or am I talking to myself here (not unusual)?

Nothing but the finest pop for me, Dr. Pepper, Pepsi, Mountain Dew, and Cherry Pepsi.

I don't go cheap on pop. Pop is to me what beer is to most you.

Generic 2 liters make good targets. I've cut way back on soda. I've drank generic stuff in the past, but don't really remember anything special. I think I do like Mountain Lightning more than Dew, but I avoid any soda that I can. I enjoy the occasional cream soda/root beer from Sprecher's in WI.

The HyVee orange isn't bad, but I still can't bring myself to cut back on that. I guess I don't drink enough to really make a difference.

I believe you meant to title this thread, "Generic Coke."

I legit thought "generic pop" meant, like, Genesis, Panic At the Disco, and Britney Spears.

I once drank a Dr. Topper that my grandma had bought from a Dollar General store.

What happened next can only be described as pure devastation. The pain of my twisted guts was one thing, but what happened in the bathroom is what nightmares are made of.

It's basically the Hairbo Sugar-free gummy bears of the pop world.

I opened another can a few days later and it literally smelled like used motor oil mixed with fryer grease. I don't know if my grandma just got a bad batch or what. I would recommend steering clear of that stuff though.

That's the understatement of the year.

Dr. Pepper in the morning
Pepsi with lunch
Mountain Dew in the afternoon
Cherry Pepsi at night

maybe another Mountain Dew at night.

Something heavy and full when I get to the bar
Something not quite as heavy with dinner
Something light that allows me to keep going
Whiskey

At least we both have a plan.

How much money do you save buying off brand pop anyway? I've never checked. I don't drink much of it but when I do it's Diet Code Red. That ****'s like cocaine............I assume. Never tried cocaine but if it's anything like that I better not.

Generic Pop?

Hell I won't drink a Dr. Pepper anymore unless its one with the old "dublin" formula.

Stocked up on 10 cases of it last year when I went to the ISU vs Texas game in Austin.

I am with you. I peaked at two 100oz mugs of Diet Dew per day. WAY too much to be good for me. I am now down to about 2 liters per day and even that is watered down to 30% water, 70% soda so only about 45 oz of actual soda per day.

And I don't like generics so stick with Diet Dew itself.

Dr. Thunder....lol....that's an awesome name. It's sounds like something from Idiocracy. Of course it's sold at Wal-Mart, which feels a lot like being in Idiocracy when I shop there.
